1. I hope she gets some responses.
Craig's List can help people find work. Her ad may bring in some responses.

3. I don't know that area, so I don't know whether she'll get some
indecent offers. I doubt it. There are plenty of direct solicitations for that on Craig's List in most places. The only responses she's likely to get from that ad will be sincere offers.

I started running a Craig's List ad when I decided to go back to work after a couple of years of retirement. My work is writing. I got two contracts in the first week the ad ran, one of which is an ongoing deal with a web designer. He designs and sells web design services. I provide the content. It's what I do well, and it's working out very nicely.

5. Come to this?
I don't understand. You think this is the first year people have used a "work wanted" ad?

6. I think the OP's concern is that people would make indecent

propositions to this woman. I think that's unlikely. The Orlando Craig's List is full of people offering sexual liaisons. I doubt anyone is looking for that in the work wanted section.

good chance this is a teen or some other time of runaway/criminal/scammer looking to play on people's hearts

25. I didn't get that feeling from her ad. Not at all.
I think she's sincere.

8. It's sad, but not uncommon
Never has been uncommon. Tens of thousands of people in this situation in this country every day, every year, good times and bad. This is the human condition, not a society that "has come to this".

These kinds of posts are very frustrating because they sound too much like the housing posts of a few years ago where the homeowner was blamed, until the mortgage problem moved into the middle class. Or the credit card or student loan or collection agency problems, when people were told to just pay their bills; until these problems moved into the middle class.

And when I see a post about a problem that has been common for women since the beginning of time, I get annoyed. Don't get indignant in this "bad economy" when you never had a word to say about these folks before.

and you can tsk tsk tsk about it.

You seriously didn't know there were women in this position all the time? Never had a personal acquaintance ask you if you knew of a job for someone in this situation?

19. Respectfully, What Do My Past Posts Reveal About Me?
Edited on Mon Mar-01-10 11:14 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
That I took care of my mom who was an amputee and had Stage 3 Colon Cancer in my own home from the time she was seventy eight until she passed away at 90 in September of 08.

That I wish I could do more for the homeless I see around me in Central Florida despite being broke myself.

That I have mentored at risk kids.

10. I think your concern is well founded, sounds like
chumming in the shark pond to me.

The whole thing is a desperate plea. More appropriate to have been told to a friend, priest or even the dark, but not in an online ad for employment,.... an open invitation to predators. IMO, she is setting herself up as an online chew toy, or worse, a real life pass around.

Don't really know what Craigslist is all about , but if I was looking for someone to use, I think I would try it out based on this ad.

13. "i can be a good friend"?
Edited on Mon Mar-01-10 10:58 AM by pitohui
i'm not too sure abt this ad, sounds like she's looking for a sugar mommy/daddy

maybe it's for real or maybe it's a scam but if it's for real this person needs PROFESSIONAL help because it sounds like she's emotional and intentionally or not will be playing on people's guilt/emotions to get at their $

"i'm 26 and i'll be your friend if you let me move in w. you" -- that is just trouble for somebody, maybe for her if she's really that naive or maybe for the person who takes the bait

if you do let her move in w. you i'd want to see some ID to verify that she's really 26 and not, say, 16 -- i know somebody who l et a runaway move in w. him, believing her to be 21 -- she was i can't remember what 15 or 16 and one day the police show up at his door

this could fuck up yr whole life if it's a scam and it may be, sounds like this person has no idea of what a useful job is -- she can help me shop and do my make-up? what, is she 14 that she thinks that's a job?

don't put out ads like this.

20. Interesting. That's essentially what happened to me
the last time my ex took off with everything for the 25th time during one of his episodes. TG I have a family or I could have written an ad like that.

This could be a scam or it could be that this young women doesn't have a social net or any idea how to access what little there is in the community that might help her.

We all have wreckage. Most of us don't use that when looking for employment. Or beg for friendship. Something is really off here.

22. Being desperate, jobless and homeless in America is not all that good for your mental health..
I'd add that being well adjusted to our society is no indication of mental health, just the opposite in fact.
