Man Charged With Stabbing Pit Bull

http://www.ketv.com/news/22697302/detail.html

POSTED: 9:43 am CST February 28, 2010

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Police said they arrested a Lincoln man on suspicion of felony animal abuse after his pit bull was stabbed in the head and neck.

A woman told police her live-in boyfriend, Anthony Hollman, 48, was drinking and poking their pit bull. She said the dog got angry, biting Hollman in the leg.

Police said the woman told them Hollman hit the dog with a broomstick and then stabbed the dog repeatedly in the head and side. A 15-year-old in the house also witnessed the stabbing.

Police said the dog was treated for its injuries.

Hollman was charged with animal abuse and child abuse.

2. This sounds like just the kind of person that should be kept away from others.
I hope the teenager gets out of the household intact, I hope the woman gets some counseling, I hope the dog ends up in a responsible home, and I hope the dumbass "boyfriend" goes to jail.

3. No harm, no foul - sorta.
Man provokes giant dog with big teeth. Dog gets mad and bites man - won't let go. Man stabs dog to get him to let go. Seems fair.

Well, actually, I think the dog owes the dumbass another bite. Just for being a dumbass.

4. This is just the kind of guy who thinks it is so cool to own a pit bull
Perhaps that is part of the problem with pit bulls attacking people. They so often wind up with owners who want them BECAUSE they sometimes attack people.

5. That animal should be put down.
And I'm not talking about the dog.

7. OTOH, no dog should respond to a "poke" with a bite.
Dogs should be able to withstand pokes, pats, hugs, and other unwanted touches from humans without biting.

8. Of course, this "poking" may have been ...
... considerably more violent than you imagine. It's not exactly a precise term.

9. And perhaps the dog was poked on a regular basis.

12. People often have to do uncomfortable things to dogs, sometimes on a regular basis.
For example, my dog has had ear problems lately and I've had to mess with his ears -- and he clearly doesn't like it.

But a good dog won't bite when you make him uncomfortable.

10. And They Blame Pit Bulls
when they get aggressive. Too many owners are abusive and raise unstable dogs. I know many Pit Bulls and they are all loving docile animals. One rescued a stray kitten and raised it as her own. She is so funny, if my friend scolds the kitty the dog stands over the cat as if to protect her.

13. I love pits, but a pit that bites his owner is a problem dog. Something is up.

15. I read the OP.
Something is seriously wrong when a dog bites his owner for any reason.
