BBC has video up of moment quake hit
Security and traffic camera shots show the moment when the quake hit Chile in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 8.8 magnitude quake struck at 0634 GMT about 115km (70 miles) north-east of the city of Concepcion and 325km south-west of the capital, Santiago.

2. 8.8 is a MONSTER quake...
the quake that destroyed much of Haiti had a magnitude of 7.0. For each whole number (e.g. 6 to 7 or 7 to 8) there's a TEN FOLD increase in the intensity of the quake.

Chile just got whacked with one bad ass earthquake. My heart goes out to the many people of Chile impacted by this disaster. Bear in mind that Concepcion (the largest city near the epicenter) is the home of 4 major universities in Chile. I hope the casualties will be an absolute minimum, and there's not tsunami generated.

Unreal how strong this quake was...
