WSU vets ID dog killing poison
http://www.dailyevergreen.com/story/31041

WSU veterinarians have found poison in meatballs suspected in the deaths of three dogs in Spokane.

One pet owner said she saw her dog chewing on something Friday morning, and he died 30 minutes later, according to The Spokesman-Review. Two other dogs were reported dead later that day. According to the Spokesman, an animal protection officer found two meatballs soaked in an unidentified substance in the neighborhood. On Tuesday, WSU vets said the meatballs contained strychnine, according to The Associated Press. More suspect meatballs were found Monday, the fifth such find since Friday.

The Humane Society of the United States is offering up to $2,500 as a reward for information on the suspected poisonings.

I hadn't heard about a dog poisoner in Spokane. Why do some people just have to kill?

5. I remember as a teenager chasing down four teen boys
who had thrown rocks at my beloved pup in her fenced yard. The neighborhood was amazed at this teen girl actually putting the fear of GOddess in these asshole boys, who probably could have turned and kicked the shit out of me. But I was fearless and they knew it.

Heaven help the person I catch causing harm to one of my precious pups.

17. I have a buddy that has a camera network set up
He has a grow room so he has a camera there as all around his house. He has an old clunky computer dedicated for monitoring and all he has to do is glance up and see what is going on around his property.

When the camera senses motion it takes a picture and sends it to email.

21. They are a lot cheaper now
and you can use a motion sensor and a memory stick to watch on a computer, cell phone or tv.

3. Every dog owner should learn how to induce vomiting in their dog
and the location of the nearest emergency veterinary clinic.

There have been instances where this has occurred in parks as well, so that owners who think their dog is not at risk since they don't have a fenced yard for these cretins to throw poisonous bait into, may still be at risk.

Humans can be so damned cruel, it just horrifies me on a daily basis.

7. Usually a few tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide orally
will do the trick. Repeat as necessary and transport immediately for more specific care and potentially a stomach wash with activated charcoal at the veterinary clinic to prevent further absorption.

In the past, many people had syrup of Ipecac on hand for their children, which also works, but there has been a backlash against sales of that drug because of bulemics misusing, so it is not so widely available.

15. Warning: Call the vet before inducing vomiting
all the time, there are many chemicals that cause more damage coming back up that going through.

Also, make sure you don't use hair coloring strength peroxide or you will be sentencing Fido to a cruel end. 3% H2O2 is the max concentration, anything more than that can cause serious burns especially on mucosal surfaces like the esophagus.

I can't stress this enough, do not induce vomiting in your pets without a Vets OK unless you know what they ingested and you know it's alright.

18. Generally true and good advice. However
in an area where dogs are knowingly being poisoned with strycnine, and especially with strychnine which induces characteristic salivation, tremors and seizuring, time is of the essence. Calling an emergency veterinarian or poison control may be fine, but waiting for a call back from the off duty family veterinarian, may result in a fatal delay. Dog owners should know how to induce vomiting and have standard hydrogen peroxide 3% on hand. There will not be time to go out and get it.

19. When I worked up in NE OR back in 1982-3, we had at least one dog come in
with suspected strychnine poisoning. I don't recall the outcome - I think he survived.
