another legendary Portland DU meet!

Back when I very first started DU,I remembered seeing a post on GD about how great the Portland DU meeting was, and blah blah...

But that was years ago, and I missed out back then.

103. There used to have meet ups -every month or so for awhile
You might try putting something up on the Oregon state board and seeing if any of the old timers (or new Du'ers would still be interested). Who knows, if you started getting some turnout, maybe Elad might show up!

Man, what I'd give for a couple of fine microbrews at the Lucky lab... good times.

But to be honest, it's been a long time since our last DU Gathering.

Proud Patriot, while she's not Moderating DU and looking after the welfare of children, used to head our gatherings in Golden Gate Park.

It's been way too long, and maybe when the weather turns nice, we should do this again.

Nothing like Frisbee and Brewskis to get close to people you've never met before.

30. I have a great DU-ers meeting story
I've had a du-er stay in my home before, sight unseen, and met up with a half-dozen or more in my hometown to hear Will Pitt speak long ago. that person who stayed with me and another DU-er who showed up are now married.

say awwwwww. they're nice folks.

also met up with others at a march on DC.

Met more DU-ers at Kef's funeral. Skinner spoke. He was a sweetheart. Strangely, I had been away from DU for more than a year and the first time I check in was the day Kef died.

met other women who live in my hometown (lived) from DU - we didn't know each other before we met here. Wonderful women.

anyway, in my experience, DU-ers are non-toxic, flame-resistant and know how to order drinks.

73. WE HAD LUNCH FIRST.
Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 11:14 PM by LeftyMom
I got to the airport. I looked around for you at the airport. I got my bags. I sat around and waited for you. I wondered where the fuck you were. I started wondering how long I should wait before seeing about getting a flight home. I wondered if 3,000 miles was a new distance record for getting stood up. I contemplated telling you off when/if you finally arrived.

You showed up. I decided not to tell you off because you're hot. We argued about who was going to carry my luggage. You won. We dealt with the broken luggage/crying baggage claim lady thing. We repeated the luggage debate, but I was tired and didn't put up much of a fight. We went to your car, which I totally could have guessed was yours even if I had no idea what you drove. I asked you why you hadn't kissed me yet, and if I smelled.

I did not smell.

We went to your house. You made me lunch. Dogs bothered me while I ate. I played around with my laptop while you checked in on work. I asked for a tour of your house and some things led to other things once I figured out where your bedroom was and chased all the dogs out.

That's like three hours from when my plane landed. I AM THE SOUL OF FUCKING RESTRAINT AND I WILL NOT HAVE YOU QUESTION MY LADY-LIKE VIRTUE. :grr:

assuming the person was there, during a quite pause I spoke the surname loud enough to gain the owner's attention. It worked to meet someone I knew not how to recognize. I soon had files off his camera shuffled online via my laptop.

I've never met one who shared any interests, other than politics, but when you meet someone in the flesh, they tend to be about more than just politics, so nope... it's hard enough for me to find anyone at all that is remotely interested and/or similar to me anywhere.

Wow I was just about to log off of here. No my hobby is not taxidermy. I'm here because I'm concerned about the course humanity has taken. My brainpower is dedicated to things like nerdy icky stuff like programming and web development because I knew 15 years ago that that would be the root of social communication, got my degrees in the field.

57. I picked "other" ....
I have an internet buddy who is a DUer. We met in another forum where we were the only two liberals in a group of conservatives. ;) It was, well, real. Other group members there told me my life was not as important as the "potential" life of a fertilized zygote about to be flushed by a fertility clinic when we were debating stem cell research and I broke it to them that I have MS and asked if they thought my life was less important. They did, but at least they didn't bottle it up.;)

My friend and I emailed a lot, we still do health (mine) permitting and we talk on the phone. She takes beautiful pictures which she sometimes sends me and she is a wonderful person. I wish I could meet her in person and some of the other DUers I post with now. Others? Um, notsomuch. And I'm sure they second that.:yoiks:

We went to the same church. I had no idea she was here until we were posting about a really bad snow storm that had caught another DUer's daughter in gridlock on an interstate in Va. I mentioned my hometown, she said it was her hometown, too, we pm'd, found out we knew each other.

The town is really small, about 5,000 people, in a red part of Va., so I imagine the chances of connecting on the same thread on DU would be slim to none. The fact that it happened on my birthday was just icing on the cake!
