3. I just had to pay $86 for a script that normally costs me $10

I called my insurance and they told me that I have a $100 deductible that just kicked in at the beginning of the year and once I pay that my co-pays will kick. You may want to check to see if this is case. Either way, it really sucks :(

At least you have insurance which takes the edge off of the financial bite. I'm currently uninsured (after being laid off from my previous job, and my current employer cannot afford insurance for himself, let alone me, his only full-time employee). I've had to go without by bipolar prescription because I simply cannot afford the $200 monthly pricetag, and I'm really starting to feel it. Thank God my estrogen patch prescription (I had a hysterectomy in my late 30's a few years ago, so I have to have it) went generic several months ago and became cheaper than even my co-pay for it while insured, because I MUST have that particular prescription.

My mom and stepdad, in their 60's, are getting squeezed left and right with goddamn prescription costs, even with insurance. My mom has them filled a few days at a time so she can afford them, since they have several prescriptions. My stepdad has Alzheimer's; his prescriptions alone are a real handful. They've worked hard and been responsible all their lives, too, it makes me sick that they have to deal with this shit thanks to Big Pharma; several of them made the top five as far as corporate profits for the year were concerned, for several years in a row now.

It's enough to make you sick. Trouble is, too many of us just can't afford to be sick right now. I know I sure as hell can't, which is why I'm trying to do everything I can to stay healthy. It terrifies me, though, I'm afraid something major (accident, injury, illness) will happen before I can become insured again, then I'll really be screwed.

Have you talked to your doctor about maybe getting some of his or her free samples of your other meds? They often have drawers full of things they can give you at no cost if they know you have no insurance.

There has to be an answer for you somewhere!

7. Welcome to the world of "tiered" coverage

Back in the day when my insurance charged $1 for ANY prescription, of course hardly anyone in the family ever needed it, but NOW that my husband is diabetic and on several meds, our coverage is "tiered"

generic...$5
1 level up...$15
another level up...$25
another.......$50
and of course another level up $75

Guess which meds his doc prescribes??

we have 4 at $50 , 2 at $75 and ONE at $15

and when he asked to be put on a cheaper copay med, he had to SIGN a paper saying that he REQUESTED that med (against dr's suggestion)

key component of meth. A lot of states are doing this.

If this was your first bout of sinusitis, its irresponsible for the doc to give you a prescription for such an expensive antibiotic. First line antibiotics for sinusitis should be agents such as amoxicillin, bactrim, etc, which are not so broad spectrum, will work just as well, will not give you near the incidence of side effects (ie, diarrhea), and are dirt cheap.

which still work. They're off patent and you'll get a generic.

I refuse to take new drugs - the reason I give the Dr. is that they don't do enough research and they're dangerous - i.e., Vioxx, etc.

When I need an antibiotic, I demand amoxicillin, costs $3 without drug insurance.

Benadryl is over the counter, safe and works for sinus congestion. Although it'll make you drowsy...

my Dad's meds were about the same cost. My parents can afford it, but I tend to suffer through with OTCs ><
