Mellencamp for Senate?
By Eric Zimmermann - 02/17/10 03:12 PM ET
There's a small but growing movement to draft John Mellencamp for Senate in Indiana. A Facebook group urging the singer-songwriter to run as the Democratic candidate to replace Bayh has gathered almost 1000 members.

Mellencamp's team is silent on the issue, but Mellencamp did comment on his political aspirations (or lack thereof) in response to a question in Blender magazine back in 2007:

What’s the first thing you’d do if you were elected president?
Scheny44, Tubac, AZ

I’d start diplomatic conversations with the Middle East, right now. Even the people I don’t agree with. Next, I’d get rid of fossil fuels. Then I’d solve the health-care crisis. And then I’d put some money into helping poor people get out of the gutter. There was actually a guy who tried to get me to run for governor of Indiana — but I sleep until 11 in the morning and stay up till three. I don’t think the legislature could keep my hours.

That might actually work: Senators rarely vote before 11am anyway...

7. You can keep saying that till you're blue in the face but you KNOW you aren't able to speak for the
whole state - just yourself.

Stop digging friend you're in a hole.. the largest FB group is already over 1200 members and the media is running with the story.

8. Yet Johnny Cougar has said nothing...
Quit meddling in our state politics. Johnny Soft Rock Cougar has zero chance to win the state. Trust me. We are dumb. Honestly I would vote for Mellencamp all day if he were the Dem candidate.

9. Sorry but it's not your state - you just live there you don't own it so stop telling other people
they can do. You don't get speak for the entire state just you.

Ultimately you just hate Mellencamp and can't explain why he'd be a bad candidate.

4. Because he/she likes Mellencamp
I'm guessing.

one could do a lot worse, that's for sure.

I listened to his music growing up and as a Reagan-idolizing teenager, I came across an interview with him in some magazine when they asked him about Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker's PTL-scandal.

I still remember how Mellencamp said they were small time and instead said to look at the folks really fleecing everybody and I think he mentioned Reagan/Republicans/conservatives/big business.

That got my attention --I didn't necessarily believe it.

But the guy is nobody's fool. :D

5. Because it's NOT the same thing.. different news sources each time
sorry if you don't like it but each one of these posts demonstrates that the idea has legitimacy.
