to take some of the steam out of the Vietghanistan debate here on DU.

I posted some harsh things, and lots of others have, too.

Let's dial it back and agree that nobody or nothing will change Pres. Obama's plan/strategy. Protests simply don't impress anybody, I guess.

Let's agree to resume the namecalling and ugly attacks one year from today. If things have gone down the toilet, folks who say this thing is a clusterfuck will get to verbally abuse the war supporters and generally act like I-told-you-so assholes. If things have worked out reasonably close to Obama's plan, the war supporters will get to do the same.

I am prepared... hell, I am eager.... to grovel and apologize all over the place if things go well in the war. I want a happy ending.

That the US kills a bunch of baddies and everyone there drops their tribalism and becomes American style voters and consumers? The War, to me, can not go well, no matter what. War is hell on earth.

is financing their operations with narco-dollars, we may have to take a different view. Not that I was ever convinced they were nice people anyway.

3. Number 1, let's first focus on getting the troops out of Iraq now.

The striking of Sunni pols from the voter lists (most of which have been upheld judicially) and the autocratic use of state power by Maliki provide the ultimate excuse: the Iraqi leadership is undermining cooperation that had been forged, and at the very least are proving that they can act on their own without U.S. aid. (Whether they can survive on their own is another question, and one we need not ask.)
