I thought it was very cool. Cool being *low key*, while still sophisticated. :applause:

Canada has a rule about how much broadcast time can be given to non-Canadian performers, which is VERY VERY COOL!!!! I saw that rule/law evidenced tonight/

3. Just saw the trees and Ordinary Day
I'm liking it so far and it really is celebrating the spirit of the individual and how the individual relates to the world. I'm glad to hear it remains good.

5. We do?
A Canadian Olympics is going to feature Canadians, that's all. Same as every other Olympics focusses on their own nationality.

6. "how much broadcast time can be given to non-Canadian performers" that's CanCon i think
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_content
http://www.letsfixcancon.ca/
http://www.craptastic.com/cancon/

The First Amendment wouldn't allow a similar "AmeriCon" law. Such a law would be worthless...since America has such a big entertainment industry anyways! But I wish the US had more foreign programming on primetime in addition to the good homegrown shows.

Yes, I did enjoy the opening ceremony too.

10. That was one of the most beautiful renditions of Hallelujah that I've ever heard.
She is so supremely talented.

11. Gotta luv her. The older she gets the more she looks like Wayne Newton and they are both

contraltos. She could do a duet of Danke Shoen with the
Newt and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference
in their voices.

15. I emailed my best friend just that -- she looked like Wayne Newton and
kind of sounded like him, too. I didn't want to post it here because I didn't want it to be interpreted as dissing her. But it really is true!

13. It was one of the most enjoyable I've ever seen. Whoo! Those Newfie Celts with their boots and tats!
I've never seen an interpretation like that, and it really got my pulse going.

The entire thing was just great, though I wish the NBC yakkers would have shut up most of the time.

17. I'd love to see a fiddle duel between the Newfie Celts and some of our Southern fiddlers
Damn, it just might bring tears to my eyes seeing the divergent halves of that shared heritage slamming into each other once again.

16. The opening ceremony seemed to celebrate native cultures
while the games are being held on unceded (stolen) native land. Doesn't that pretty much define hype?

I watched it here with the family for a while. It was impressive if you shut out what is actually happening there and how, sorry to say.
