1. Long list of stuff -- throwing out computer voting, for one --
Edited on Fri Feb-12-10 12:16 AM by defendandprotect
I'd try to speak out as Grayson and Kucinich do -- and Sanders on all issues --

And, Franken is doing well on that --

Work on reinstituting New Deal rules and restrictions on corporations --

MEDICARE FOR ALL --

Knock out trade agreements --

Pass union strengthening legislation --

Try to end privatization of our military --

STOP the wars !!!

STOP re-funding the wars !!!

EQUALITY FOR ALL ---

etal --

And certainly try to get something done about the HOMELESS and IMPOVERISHED in America --

Work on bringing Democrats out to rally for MEDICARE FOR ALL -- etc.

2. Speak out, first and foremost.
Beyond that, I'd try not to become as corrupt as most of my colleges.

4. I would do everything in my power to advocate for, and vote...
...on behalf, of the people* who elected me, without out worrying about whether or not I would get re-elected.

(NOTE: People refers to humans with blood & bones; NOT corporate 'people'... ;-)

6. Start an intensive campaign to make conservative a bad word.
Edited on Fri Feb-12-10 02:33 AM by Jamastiene
Before we Democrats can do anything we need to influence the people to quit trying to move the country so far to the right.

That's 90% of our problem right now. We let the conservatives shame us for being liberal when we should stand up to them and make them the ones who feel shame for their heartlessness and vindictiveness. Conservative should be the bad word, not liberal. Conservatives need to be taught a lesson in humanity.

Before we can do anything, we need to make people see things from our point of view, sell our ideals to them and let them see what we are really made of, instead of trying to coddle Republican ass all the time. The Republicans are spoiled rotten and need an attitude adjustment.

9. Yes, yes, yes
We've been losing the framing war for close to 30 years now. I can honestly remember when Christians were embarrassed to admit they were Republican. The Democratic party was seen as the "moral" party due to it's stance on war, civil rights, poverty, etc. At the same time, it was also seen as the "cool" party. Hardly anyone under 30 was a Republican.

When the Republican party began to systematically destroy the Democratic brand, the Democratic leadership did nothing. Actually, they did worse than nothing, they ran from the very things that made us great.

I feel so completely demoralized these days. I am just stunned by the unmitigated gall of the repubs but I am disgusted at the way our leaders just take it. If I see one more Democratic politician kissing teabagger ass, I think I'll start screaming and never stop. I just can not believe this shit.

7. Make sure that the message
about healthcare was on evey channel, every day. Explaining it.

Actually have shovel ready jobs in all states to repair infrastructure.

Hire skilled techies in America to work on upgrading the grid.

Make the message louder than the noise that we are subjected to on a daily basis.Branding.

Repeat Maddow's very good show on the congress of No while showing their photo op's of the checks containing
stimulus money on every channel, every day.

10. Emulate Paul Wellstone
Get rid of computer voting and computer counting of the votes. I would push for a WPA like FDR created. I would push hard for medicare for all and computerized medical charts.

13. First thing? Break up health care reform into bite-sized bills.
One bill would simply address rescission. Another bill would only address the issue of people being banned for "pre-existing conditions." A third bill would only address the issue of lifting the exemption health insurance companies enjoy as far as anti-trust laws go. Another bill could simply address the establishment of a Public Option, a robust one with none of the junk legalese language that would restrict it like it has been with the real health care bill now currently stalled in the Senate.

To really get under right wingers' skin, both Democrat and Republican, I'd attach some of these bills onto Pentagon defense appropriations bills. Let's see the health insurance whores fight it out with the whores for the Pentagon.

15. I'd do what any other politician does
regardless of their party. Try to get elected, try to stay elected, try to get elected to a higher office with more power/perks attached to it.
