An Air Force Reserve Super Bowl spot called "Grab Some Air" has riled Jack and Meg White for including a re-recorded version of their hit "I Fell in Love with a Girl" without actually asking the band's permission. The White Stripes took to their website to let it be known just how they feel about the ad, which doesn't appear to be up on the Air Force Reserve site; instead there are just wallpapers/screensaver downloads at this point. Maybe the Stripes' pretty clear-cut message below did the trick.

"Above to the left is the White Stripes song 'Fell in Love with a Girl.' On the right is the new Super Bowl aired commercial for the Air Force Reserve.

"We believe outr song was recorded and used wthout permission of the White Stripes, our publishers, label or management.

"The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserve presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support.

"The Whire Stripes support this nation's military at home and during times when our country needs and depends on them. We simply don't want to be a cog in the wheel of the cuttent conflict and hope for a safe and speedy return home for our troops.

"We have not licenesed this song to the Air Force Reserve and we plan to take strong action to stop the ad containing this music."

Update: Rolling Stone reports that the video and page housing it have both been pulled from the Air Force Reserve site.

2. Why do they hate America?
Don't they want their property used without compensation to promote the military? Where's their patriotism? And how can we possibly pay our mercenaries AND swipe music to induce young people to join the military? Gotta cut costs somewhere, and the mercenaries have guns.

Just red and white. Commies and surrenderers, that's what they are!

9. Yep, they don't care. You and I get to pay for it.
If the White Stripes want to sue, they have to file suit against the U.S. government. The government doesn't bother fighting these kinds of cases, and will just cut them a check to make them go away.
