Thats right. I got hired. I got a job.
And yeah, I am going to gloat.
Its part time sure but it will fill up our bellies with food.
I have to be up at 0300 to be at work at 0330.
I have to move 2400 lb. pallets of paper onto a truck and then deliver them.
So?
I can do that. I will do that.
Its good money.
Bills? Well, they are going to get paid!
That pesky mortgage? Paid!
Heck, if I work it right, I might even get a new pair of glasses.

Did I mention I have a job?

I should also mention I just got home from the first day.
My legs are tired, my eyes have boogers floating across the cornea's and my arms are about two inches longer than they were yesterday.
But I have a job.
I am needed.
Yay for me.

I hope, if you are looking for a job, you find one too.
Don't give up.

For a bit of irony...two weeks ago, we jumped through all of the hoops and applied for TANF (welfare). Yesterday was my first day of attending 'workshops' on how to find a job.
Before I left for that humiliating session, I called about a job I saw on craigslist. Interviewed on the phone, offered the job in the afternoon, started this morning.
TANF immediately issued me checks for boots, work clothes and gas money.
Got to love the support.
Damn Socialist safety net.

Im so fucking happy and tired, I could cry.
Thats all I wanted to say.
Going to bed.
Because I have a job.
Going to sleep well tonight for all of the right reasons.
See ya kids.
Oh, is this a great Country or what?

132. Kind of Happy, Kind of Sad, are you?
It sounds like it. I'm glad you found a job, and I hope you can find one doing what you want.

I never understood why people think manual labor jobs are worth so much less, as they take so much more out of you than mental work. But then, I've always been a bit Socialist, which doesn't bother me, as I've never let any brainwashing media, or anyone else for that matter, tell me what system I should believe in.

Be careful with your tendons and joints. You could really hurt yourself and get tendonitis. Be careful with your back. Wear the harness. Start taking the bone and joint supplements like Glucosamine. It really works to strengthen your tendons and bones.

sleep well. You earned it.

14. Shades of "The Jungle"
So his hands relaxed and he merely said quietly: "It is done, and there is no use in weeping, Teta Elzbieta." Then his look turned toward Ona, who stood close to his side, and he saw the wide look of terror in her eyes. "Little one," he said, in a low voice, "do not worry--it will not matter to us. We will pay them all somehow. I will work harder." That was always what Jurgis said. Ona had grown used to it as the solution of all difficulties--"I will work harder!" He had said that in Lithuania when one official had taken his passport from him, and another had arrested him for being without it, and the two had divided a third of his belongings. He had said it again in New York, when the smooth-spoken agent had taken them in hand and made them pay such high prices, and almost prevented their leaving his place, in spite of their paying. Now he said it a third time, and Ona drew a deep breath; it was so wonderful to have a husband, just like a grown woman--and a husband who could solve all problems, and who was so big and strong!

I'm sad that you are so happy.

Try to tuck a few bucks away so by the third paycheck you can treat yourself and family to a meal or a movie. We hadn't done either in over 18 months, and while it wasn't an expensive restaurant, it sure tasted wonderful!

So glad for you!

I managed to get two long-term subbing jobs put together into one job (I start at one school and then drive to the other--very different schools, so it's a bit weird), and I'm still on cloud nine about it. Paying the bills is good!

I'm one of those people. You woke something up in me. I've taken things for granted for so long I can't remember. There is an excitement that is lost when one has no worries.

You know, there is nothing more important than the little things in life. Like surviving. And paying bills. The rest is just icing.

Best of luck with your new job.

Edit- And bless those who gave me hearts. It warms me up.

You, with your attitude are the REAL American!

This is a new job. . .and if you keep that great attitude of yours. . .you'll go far!
You may be starting part-time, it may be a difficult schedule. . .but I'm sure it is only the beginning!

Good luck!

80. I got one of those "jobs" in December...
I was stacking boxes of paint onto pallets and putting the pallets on trucks. It was a lot of heavy lifting, and my arthritis did not like me very much, but I'd been out of work for almost a year, and I really wanted a job. It was not the job I'd envisioned when I got my master's degree, but at least it was work. I might be able to pay my tens of thousands of dollars in student loans, and have money for car insurance.

That was before I found out they were going to cut my Medicaid benefits because I made over $904 GROSS per MONTH. Did I mention the job was through a temp service, and somehow they get around having to pay benefits for full-time work? For $9/hour, no benefits, and work that was tearing up my body, I was still willing, UNTIL I found out that I would lose my medical. I have to get very expense treatments for the arthritis, so it was a no-brainer. I had to quit the job, lose my car insurance, and stop paying my bills.

Some system we have, huh?

83. Congratulations.
I know it can get very scary not having work. This time last year both my wife and I were unemployed, and had been for over two months, and it was beginning to get desperate.

Then I got a temporary full time job which lasted until I got my present two part time jobs, and, now within the last month, my wife has two part time jobs too.

Things are still a bit dicey. Neither one of us can get health insurance, but right now at least we both appear to be healthy. If there were reasonably priced health insurance as we would hope would be available through a public option we could, and would afford that, well, we're at risk.

86. Job hunting can be so difficult
under the best of circumstances. I'm always reminded of what the Red Queen says in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass:
"It takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!"

Congratulations, and here's hoping your employer is smart enough to realize what a great find you are.

135. Hi every one!
Second day is done, had a blast. Not as tired as yesterday but every bit as happy.
I received a company cell phone, keys and assorted handbooks, a pat on the back and a heart 'welcome aboard' so I am in!

I am grateful to every one who posted on this thread, I have never had a post that went to the Greatest Page as I listen more than speak usually...lolz.

To those who are looking for employment, don't get discouraged, I almost let it get to me when my wife was laid off last month, I mean I was down in the dumps.
But this side of the dirt is better than the other side looking up, I found hope where I could and just kept exploring options.

We will get by!

Thanks again every one, nap time...
