once you consider how he makes his wife/steady girlfriend feel and once you realize how he's using all the women on the side, usually while assuring them his wife doesn't understand him and he's married in name only.

I find intelligence, humor and honesty sexy. I am a total sucker for any man who is able to laugh at himself. I don't find being hustled by some guy with a suspiciously pale stripe on the third finger of his left hand sexy at all.

Having said that, I find I don't judge a male who visits a professional sex worker for fantasy, role playing, and a few things his wife is loath to do but he's always wanted to try a lot less harshly than the ones who string other women along, sometimes for years, while making the wife feel like dirt.

The only one who barely qualifies is Spitzer, and that's with a whole ton of reservation.

When I was young and he was Attorney General, it had to be Robert Kennedy. No one knew that he was philandering until after his death, but he was. There is a picture of him looking back at Jackie Kennedy at the end of a family visir long after JFK's death. His wife was walking off looking the other way, but the smile he gave Jackie and hers in return spoke volumes. He was also pretty discreet. Today's philanderer's are squicky and obvious.

that philandering in the first place is dishonest. I guess discreet is not making videotapes or going public or doing "dig what I'm doing." The guys in the poll have all done that in some way. Maybe it is just that Kennedy didn't get caught or outed by the media. Things were different then. The media covered for them. In my mind not a good thing. If you want to cheat you assume the risk or you stay monogamous. I don't like philanderers, but the poll was to chose one that was less icky than the others.

Discreet is definitely not having kids with the people you are philandering with like Edwards. That is a big deal and has to be even more hurtful to the wives than the cheating, which is hurtful enough.

A lot of this stuff didn't come out until years after they were dead when the tell all books started and it was reluctantly confirmed. I think they should all be called out. As I said in the answer I wrote to OP, I don't like cheating. If you feel you have to do it, maybe you should leave your marriage or try to fix it. Cheating never does. It just creates a lot of grief and lies to try and avoid it. But if you do decide to cheat you should be aware of the risks and expect that something will happen, because it always does. It is in the nature of being a public figure. Your life is open to minute scrutiny.
