2. Last night a post said he was doing better
I hope he rallied enough to be able to say goodbye. I know from experience that can be important.

RIP. I didn't always agree with him, but he fought the good fight.

I remember how he stood up to the republicans and they couldn't say anything because he was such a strong military guy.

15. We have lost a real Democrat.
Mr. Murtha was a fighter who worked to make life better for ALL Americans. I wish he had been Speaker of the House the last 12 months.

33. Murtha received a bronze star and two purple hearts...
... as an intelligence officer in the United States Marine Corps.

He started out as a enlisted man, attended college on the GI Bill, and returned to active duty as a reserve officer.

I'll always remember Murtha as the guy who stood against the illegal, immoral and unnecessary war in Iraq and was one of the few who opposed Bush.

34. I knew he was a decorated Vet - I just didn't know he
was the first Vietnam Vet to win a seat in the House.
And yes I'll never forget him for standing up to Bushco.

Thanks for the info. :hi:

BREAKING NEWS: Congressman John Murtha Dies At Age 77

Posted: 2:42 pm EST February 8, 2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman John P. Murtha died Monday at 1:18 p.m. at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA.

At his bedside was his family.

Murtha, 77, was Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.

First elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in February of 1974, Murtha dedicated his life to serving his country both in the military and in the halls of Congress. A former Marine, he became the first Vietnam War combat Veteran elected to the U.S. Congress.

This past Saturday, Murtha became Pennsylvania’s longest serving Member of Congress.

31. The dying sometimes have a rally period right before they go.
And most reporters are simply relaying information given to them by the family/spokesperson/staff. Most reporters don't have a medical education and a medical education couldn't guarantee they got it right either.

confronting the Bush administration and Republican Congress when the rest of our Democrats were hiding under their desks. He will be missed.
