I was intensely proud of all the democratic candidates this evening.

24. With Senator Byrd, yes! LOL...
Bless his heart - he is such a hoot, I just love him! I watch CSPAN a lot, and he's one of my favorites, always entertaining and informative. Have you ever watched him on the Senate floor? When he speaks, he does this thing where when he wants to make a point, he stops, repeats the last phrase, and raises his arm toward the camera, index finger pointing, and makes a swirling gesture with his hand...I've tried to describe for mr liberty what he does, and the best description of it that I've come up with is a "flourish" !!

... the publisher of the Amazon copy? I'd rather not give my money to a Right Wing think tank like CATO.

33. Better link for an Amazon copy ...
Edited on Fri Apr-27-07 07:10 PM by krkaufman
The following Amazon link is for the same version as sold by CATO, which includes both the Decl. of Independence *and* the US Constitutions, and is smaller than the above Amazon Constitution-only version.

http://www.amazon.com/Declaration-Independence-Constitution-United-States/dp/1882577981/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-5851425-0050464?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177718454&sr=1-1

(Looks like this is also the copy Dennis held-up.)

8. "I took an oath to defend the Constitution"
Edited on Thu Apr-26-07 08:34 PM by AnOhioan
Dennis won the debate with that statement and more than likely won new support. The others had the opportunity to prove to the American public that they would work in the public's interest. They completely blew the opportunity.

Alot of the answers tonight by all the candidates were succinct and their presentation was, for the most part, good.

But every debate has one defining moment, and DK, holding up the pocket copy of the Constitution was that moment. That is what people will remember and talk about tomorrow.

14. I've been critical of Dennis of late
But he rocked tonight. He made a good case for his candidacy. No BS.

I was especially glad with the way he conducted himself after the debate. Joe Scarborough tried to lead him into badmouthing Clinton and Obama...and he refused the bait! Plus, his wife Elizabeth is smart and drop-dead gorgeous.
:headbang: Attaboy, Dennis. :headbang:

22. k & r -- That's really a lovely photo! Thank you for posting it, it's made my morning!
I had no way to watch the debate (no cable) last night -- instead I experienced the vicarious thrill of reading innumerable posts about it as it was happening, as well as the reaction posts after it was over. Yours is by far my favorite. :D

I've loved Dennis since the 2004 campaign. I was a Kucinich delegate at my state's 2004 Dem convention, and was in the running to be a delegate to the National Convention in Boston. (I withdrew my name because it was just not logistically possible for me to make the trip)

I only got to see him speak in person once, early on in the campaign season, but it was enough to inspire me to sign up. What I appreciate most about him is that he seems to me to be a truly honorable human being.

It's not just his ideas, it's how he arrives at them; the combination of a rigorous intellectual process with rigorous ethics and compassion.

Anyway, thanks again for posting this great picture!

23. He has a lot of nerve waving that around.
Someone needs to inform Kucinich that there's 10 amendments to the Bill of Rights... not 9.

From http://thomas.loc.gov

A THREE-POINT PLAN FOR RESCUING THE NATION FROM VIOLENCE -- (House of Representatives - April 17, 2007)

---

(Mr. KUCINICH asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)

Mr. KUCINICH. Mr. Speaker, in the aftermath of the tragedy at Blacksburg, Virginia, it is becoming painfully obvious that the easy availability of handguns constitutes a growing national crisis of public health and safety, one that calls for a powerful, wide-ranging response from this Congress.

I am urging Members to support H.R. 676, the Conyers-Kucinich bill, which establishes a universal, not-for-profit health care system, which provides full and comprehensive mental health care.

Second, support H.R. 808, a bill establishing a Department of Peace and Nonviolence, which directly addresses the issues of domestic violence, gang violence, and violence in the schools which is reflected in our current homicide rates.

And third, the 33 deaths at Blacksburg constitute a national tragedy. So, too, does the fact that an average of 32 people each and every day in the United States perish in handgun-related incidents. Accordingly, I am drafting a bill to ban the purchase, sale, transfer or possession of handguns by civilians. A gun buy-back provision will be provided in the bill.

It's time for us to rescue this Nation from the violence which is engulfing it, and I have just articulated a three-point plan to do so.
