1. The lunch room looks half full - if that
Guess the guy didn't want his boss to know he really wasn't sick today :-).

5. They don't plate empty seats.
Most of the visible seats are occupied.

Of the unoccupied seats at the one table in the foreground, all of them have salad and beverage served. They're going to be occupied.

9. My girlfriend used to be a food and beverage manager at a hotel.
Otherwise, I wouldn't have thought of it either :)

11. Actually, that's not true...
...I've been to many political lunches/dinners where the appetizer (usually salad) course is already on the table, and the water glasses are filled. The hotel will put out as many meals as have been ordered and paid for. Many's the time an entire table or two will go empty because people don't bother to show up. They'll usually clear them away if nobody arrives by the time the entrees are served.

12. Fair enough. The seats are SOLD, but there may be no-shows.
You're absolutely right.

26. The tables seem pretty far apart
I am not much of convention go-er, but the few needlework seminars I have been to, the tables were much closer together, cramming in as much seating as possible.

The last national convention/seminar I attended there were nearly 800 people attending classes, not counting officers, spouses, people working at the seminar, teachers, etc. At the awards banquet, there were probably a thousand people - for a seminar for a dying art. And the Tea Party can only convince 600 to pay for their main attraction? That is pitiful.

18. Not necessarily.
I just got back from a Planned Parenthood luncheon at the Biltmore Resort in Phoenix and the two seats next to me were "plated" with a salad, tea, and dessert, but no one occupied those seats. By the way, those were about the only empty seats - it was a great turnout for the Roe v. Wade anniversary.

like the August teabag mobs.. it was something to do.. a bus ride..a get-together..some lunch, a little yelling, and then back to the 3pm-pm shift at walmart

19. MSNBC stated attendance is around 900 or so, which the 'baggers consider
"sold out".

Can you take those white table cloths home to use as hoods and robes?

24. I'm just thankful this was not one of those rare weeks when I had to go
to the corporate office in Nashville. I could have been trapped in a plane with a bunch of those wackos. Especially as MSP is a hub - there's always people on the flight back from Nashville worried about their connections.

It makes my skin crawl just to think about it.
