He doesn't have to be mean about it. Give the guy a job doing something else, but he really needs to go. The guy is never on tv fighting for anything. It's so one sided. Steele is a moron, but at least he argues for what he believes. WHere the hell is Tim Kaine. They lose Ted Kennedy's seat and he's nowhere to be found?

1. Kaine should never have held that position in the first place...
What's the difference between him and a hard-right Republican? Only the (D) after his name.

2. Why blame Kaine? He was Gov of Va until 3 weeks ago. They should
have left Dean in place until Kaine could take over on 1/20/10. Look at the Democrats fund raising and you'll see what Kaine has been doing.

4. Kaine has been a disaster.
The post might as well have been vacant for the past year.

We actually won elections when Dean was in charge!!!

5. Not gonna happen - I think Dean is persona non grata at the WH. Not sure
he'd want the job anyway. WE'D all love it if your suggestion came to pass, but sadly, I fear it won't. :(

8. Just look at Rachel Maddow tonight. She just gave the Dems atleast 20 ads they could run against the
GOP. All of those votes supporting wall street, and not one negative add from the Dems. I don't get it.

29. No, people don't seem to get that part
They also don't seem to get that Howard Dean had no plans to continue being Chairman once the party won the White House for precisely that reason. David Axelrod and other White House staffers play the actual substantial role that Howard Dean used to play. Tim Kaine isn't even a figurehead so much as he is a fundraiser. The President is the face of the party and there are plenty of others party leaders (Vice President Biden, Speaker Pelosi, etc.) who are more high profile than Tim Kaine.

22. Don't hold your breath. All this recent PR is just election year bullshit.
They'll sell your ass to Wall Street and the War Industry all year long, then turn around and toss you a few symbolic bones in the election years. Nothing that will cost their bosses a damned penny, of course-- your money will still be used to promote our conglomerates' interests abroad, so they have a nice place to send your job to.

But you'll get lots of neat media events; lots of staged conflict... political WWF stuff. Toss in a couple of social wedge issues... and there you go. Come November, things will be right back to normal. Oh, hey-- that's when the Debt Commission offers its findings. What a coincidence.

27. You might want to learn something about how this process works before commenting on it
The Party Chairman of the party that is in the White House is merely a figurehead. Tim Kaine literally takes his marching orders from the White House political team which is lead by David Axelrod. Now do you really think Howard Dean would volunteer for a job where he would have to answer to David Axelrod?

31. I know who he answers to. Are u saying Obama couldn't give Dean more power to do what
he wants to do? He can do whatever he wants, he's the POTUS. He can say that Dean answers to no one but him. That's leadership. I don't know what Dean did, but now is the time to put pettiness aside. The cause needs more people how can articulate a message. More people that will fight for real change. Not yes men and corporate whores. These are just my thoughts, I'm not trying to piss people off. I thought more people would be disgusted with Tim Kaine, maybe losing more seats will bring more anger.

32. The party machinery is operated by the White House, period
And President Obama is the face of the party. Tim Kaine is some guy who goes around asking for money and occasionally gives a shitty interview that people on DU subsequently freak out about. If we lose a lot of seats in November it will have very little to do with Tim Kaine.

36. I don't know if Kaine has been particularly good or bad
I don't think he's a very effective speaker, but compared to that dolt Steele, he's a genius.

But if he had anything to do with getting Dems behind Coakley, or Deeds being the nominee in VA...then he sucks and should be removed. Otherwise I don't see enough to remove him by. I'd prefer Dean, but the Dems problems right now lie completely with the Senate and their inability to agree on anything. It's the real bottleneck and weak point. And the way it's going, the likes of Bayh, Lincoln, and several others are going to sink the party in '10 and beyond if they don't get their shit together.

I don't think the chairs of parties matters as much as people on this site think. The apparatus Obama had in place obviously isn't functioning. And why would people have expected it to? Many who volunteered and donated to Obama and other Dems are wondering why they bothered in the first place. I know I won't donate to a single Senate Dem until the body itself can enact change. Right now I just see a dysfunctional bunch of ass hats that are more concerned about their political future than people's real problems.

Obama is a corporatist, the opposite of a progressive/liberal.
