No question that the GOP are fat ignoramuses compared to Obama but...
Edited on Sat Jan-30-10 07:28 AM by Kablooie
he was not able to push the pile of fat ignoramuses out of the way all last year.
They easily blocked every single thing he wanted to do.

They may be stupid but they are large enough enmasse to prevent Obama from accomplishing anything and a president who accomplishes nothing, no matter how high minded and impressive he is, is a failure.

Obama is going to have to dramatically change tactics if he is going to do any of the things he wants to do.

He has a giant, unmoving mountain of disgusting blubber blocking the road and shining a light on it so everyone can see that it is a greasy pile of blubber does nothing to move it off the road.

He's going to have to get a huge shovel, get his hands dirty and start shoveling fast or he may have a tougher time keeping his job in 2012 than we think.

1. Send This Message To The Senate...
A lot of his agenda went through the House only to end up in the Senate dead letter office. Reid was scared shit to rock the boat and prefered to avoid any serious legislation in order to keep "civility". In short, he got rolled over and over again. The President can't act alone...he needs leadership in both Houses to make things happen. He has it in Pelosi (when she tells Hoyer to butt out) but Reid has the spine of a jellyfish. New Senate leadership would make a world of difference. Maybe the White House is starting to see that...

2. Maybe the White House is starting to see that
but it's the Senate that votes on its leaders. And apparently, for better or worse there are plenty of Democratic Senators who are satisfied with things the way they are.

5. The Senate is made up of millionaires; status quo works for them...
it's hard to think of many in the Senate who are filthy rich and beholden to corporate interests. Bernie Sanders comes to mind as a notable exception, but by and large, even the Democrats in the Senate (think Diane Fienstein) tend to be corporate shills.

The House is far more egalitarian, and tends to better reflect the will of the people (closer to constituents due to more frequent elections and usually smaller # of said constituents). If we had Sanders or possibly Barbara Boxer in charge of the Senate, Obama might be able to get things done. It's time for bare knuckles, and I doubt Reid is up to the task (he certainly hasn't been to date).

3. I hate Truman analogies......
they're overdone and frankly, HST is overrated.... but I kept thinking "gluttons of privilege" before and during SOTU address.

He'll (Obama) be pulverized by the corporate media if he goes this route but :

1. it's true; ( i.e. the obstructionists were accurately described by Truman)

2. I don't see anything positive coming from the "bi-partisanship" approach. We're going to have FEWER, not more , seats in congress after the midterms... not matter what happens. What miracle is going to occur that will make an enlarged minority caucus suddenly interested in bipartisanship?

It would be nice if Obama's tenure could be marked by at least a *few* achievements of enduring consequence. Don't see how that's going to happen with Obama traveling the Kumbaya route. GOP doesn't do Kumbaya.

Do we still have DUZY awards? The above imagery is worth at least an honorable mention.

7. OK, I overstated the case, but none of his big, important proposals were passed.

Those are the ones that make a difference and make history.
