General Petraeus not pleased with biblical gunscope inscriptions
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 07:44 AM by ck4829
U.S. General David Petraeus said on Thursday it was "disturbing" that a manufacturer had embossed biblical citations on rifle scopes sent to Afghanistan and Iraq, and the firm announced it would voluntarily halt the practice.

"This is a big concern to the Army and the Marine Corps, who have contracted for these particular sites," said Petraeus, the head of U.S. Central Command, noting the religious sensitivities American forces face in the two Muslim countries.

"This is of serious concern to me and to the other commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan because, indeed, it conveys a perception that is absolutely contrary to what it is that we have sought to do," Petraeus told a forum at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

"It is disturbing to us, frankly, that this was done," he added.

1. It's interesting that Trijicon has been doing this since they've been making scopes for the US
military. Decades of making fundie scopes for all those Christian Soldiers.

And no one in the military noticed until now.

6. Did you ever think that maybe it's an insult to the Christian faith, too?
You know, all that stuff about love thy neighbor, turn the other cheek, that sort of thing?

Personally, I think it's beyond obscene that a weapons manufacturer spouts bible verses. It's an obscene mockery, and I'm an atheist.

8. Yah, but you can also remember that there was beaucoup
killing in the Old Testament. I guess it was OK if you killed people who were not part of your in-group.
