The only way we'll get Medicare for all is if the people demand it.

Politicians aren't going to give it to us. Why should they? They have excellent health care, plus they've had contributions from Big Pharma and the insurance companies. The politicians would be biting the hands that feed them.

"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will." --- Frederick Douglass

1. You are so right.
Sometimes I fantasize about people gathering in a huge protest and burning their insurance cards (like they did when I was younger with their draft cards).

2. It's not a one-time demand either.
It is a continuous demand for proper scheduling and funding of Medicare reimbursements.

It is a continuous demand for more not less coverage of treatments and procedures.

It is a continuous demand for lower not higher premiums and co-pays.

It really can become an all-consuming single issue.

3. The will of the people is powerless against the DLC EXCEPT
at the ballot box during the primaries. Want Change You Can Believe In? Support and vote for Liberal/Progressive challengers to DLC/Blue Dog incumbents.

4. Even the Teabaggers knew this so they did their thing.
Politicians only do what they are almost forced to do
especially, when facing difficult issues. Pressure and
force are essential.

5. Americans are docile and obedient. The only 'demands' would be sports, beer, and "reality" tv

6. It's nice to think that, but last polled 75% of this nation wanted a public option
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 10:09 AM by Javaman
and just were do our elected officials with their tissue paper health care bill stand on that? "we don't have the votes" they whine.

So either the public is smoking some serious shit or, gasp, our elected officials aren't listening to us. Which could it be? which could it be?

We can demand all day long what we want, but at the end of the day, our glorious politicians only listen to their biggest donors and that ain't us.
