Newsflash: A US Senator's term is 6 years!
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 03:19 AM by Withywindle
I've spent hours watching one post after another popping up in random threads saying, "We'll kick Brown's ass out in 2012."

I WISH. But no. No we will not. He is not eligible for any kind of removal or election for another 6 years. It's only members of the House of Representatives who seek re-election every two years.

You'd think this would be obvious to anyone who ever took 10th-grade civics....uh, but I learned this in 10th-grade civics in the 80s. Do they not teach this anymore?

Edit: I have been thoroughly schooled. I now have hopes of getting rid of this loser in '12. But only if we run a candidate who is willing to DO THE FUCKING WORK.

1. WRONG!
Brownie only serves until Jan 3, 2013.
He must run for a full term 2012.

5. OK, that may be.
I know it varies from state to state.

3. this post warranted snark
but I'll just correct you:
this was a special election to finish out the rest of Ted Kennedy's term.

7. Snark away - if I misunderstood the law, I deserve it!
I'm glad his potential for damage is limited. Let's have a candidate from MA who is ON FIRE for the peopoe.

4. Wrong. Brown was only elected to fill the remainder of Sen Kennedy's term
and thus he must run for re-election in 2012.

Special Election not Regular Election

9. I've never been so glad to be mistaken!
Coakley disappointed me BIG TIME, and I'm looking forward to Kenney's rightful successor to step up in '12.

But where was s/he NOW?

10. Not the particular Mass senate law, obviously.
I deserve the snark. Lay it on.

13. It's not "Mass senate law". He is completing Kennedy's 6 year term.
In '12 the term is contested again. It's how the *US* Senate works.

18. It's not about Mass laws.
The senate seat is up for grabs again in 2012. The Constitution says so.

I didn't mean to be snarky (OK, maybe I did...), but Brown is nothing more than a seat-filler until the next election.

23. Thank you.
Even though by giving a  back, I kick my shame, when I really want it to sink.

Seriously, thanks. I've had a crappy day overall. This is by no means the worst.

14. In Brown-noser's case, he's got less than 3 year before we take it back and send him home

in his pickup truck.

15. Regular senate terms are six years, but not this time.
This was a special election to fill Senator Kennedy's seat until 2012 to finish out his term.

I just hope MA has another candidate up its sleeve who is willing to do the work of shaking hands and kissing babies (or vice versa). :)

If we can't admit when we're wrong, then we're.....Republicans. DO NOT WANT.
