We could have lost him with his heart problems. I am very grateful that he and Jimmy Carter are still with us. Hell, in this time of need, I even have - for the first time in my life - a droplet of respect for W., who, unlike Cheney, has kept his trap shut and now is on the right side of helping others.

Anyway, we have had mostly good ex-presidents, and while I was not an unqualified supporter at the time, it's time the Big Dog is recognized as such.

politics generally to help people who need help - and they continue to try to do that after they leave the Presidency.

I'm sure people will mock that but I don't have any doubt that Carter, Clinton and Obama became politicians because they wanted to make a difference by helping the poor, working and middle class here in the US and around the world.

Republicans are just fine with maintaining the status quo or helping the already rich and/or powerful.

I think Democratic Presidents struggle with the best way to do what I described above because altering the existing systems is hard and scary to a lot of people.

5. I agree with you about W.
Unlike that bastage Cheney, W has kept his mouth shut since leaving the WH. He gets a droplet of respect from me on that (though it really won't put a dent into all the things I detest about him, but credit where credit is due).
