Should Americans vote for impeachment by sending just $3.33 to Kucinich?

and my fellow DUers...

Waxman, Pelosi, Hoyer, Rahm Emanuel, Mike Simpson (R-ID), Jim McDermott (D-WA), Christopher Shays (R-CT), David Dreier (R-CA), George Miller (D-CA), Stephanie Herseth (D-SD - I sent her campaign money from the earliest - her ass is MINE), Kucinich (D-THANK YOU VERY MUCH YOU PRINCE, YOU SCHOLAR YOU!)... kinda lost track.

Oh, I forgot -

KICK!!!

BTWaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy...

When I called McDermott's office (I like him a lot, even if he's not strictly speaking mine), the staffer conceded that they were getting a LOT of calls from all over the country - urging this. She said he was still hesitant. I said - PLEASE DON'T BE! It's TIME. It's JUST TIME. SURELY there's enough evidence by now. And it just might be the only way to end this damned war - by relieving the commander-in-chief AND HIS SECOND-IN-COMMAND (at least starting there). She agreed.

I think in their heart-of-hearts, many of 'em wanna jump on this. They're just hesitant the same way Pelosi is - that they might be shooting the whole wad prematurely and somehow alienating voters from them in 2008. To that, I say HELL NO!!! Look, last November, WE VOTED FOR BACKBONE. AND george is correct about ONE thing only - that WE DID NOT VOTE FOR FAILURE. He wasn't thinking of this kind of failure, but I AM!!! And to FAIL to hold these assholes FULLY accountable is NOT WHAT WE VOTED FOR, WORKED LIKE DOGS FOR, GAVE TIL IT HURT FOR, LOBBIED OUR FRIENDS/NEIGHBORS/COWORKERS/FAMILY MEMBERS FOR (til we were blue in the face), BLOGGED AND POSTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET FOR, DROVE AROUND WITH BUMPER STICKERS ALL OVER OUR CARS FOR, LOADED OUR YARDS WITH YARD SIGNS FOR, WALKED PRECINCTS FOR, MADE PHONE CALLS FOR, AGITATED FOR, STRATEGIZED FOR, WENT TO MEETINGS FOR, WROTE LETTERS FOR, ETC. And, with some of 'em, I even suggest that I, who do most if not all of those things (like many of us DUers do), will think twice about putting out like that next time, because I sure didn't get back what I put in. What did I bust my behind for, if they don't do WHAT I SENT THEM TO WASHINGTON TO DO???

I do not hesitate to mention this. Because I feel like I'm owed for all that work. WE ALL ARE. WE ARE OWED. WE. ARE. OWED. WE put in all the work, struggle, time, energy, ideas, and expense TO PUT THEM WHERE THEY ARE NOW - IN THE MAJORITY, WITH THE POWER TO DO THESE THINGS AND MAKE 'EM STICK. WHY should we keep putting out that much and that hard and that consistently, if we're going to have little to show in return for that level of commitment? I didn't work like hell for NOTHING. OR for a lot of jellied spinal columns. I WORKED FOR BACKBONE. AND NOW I EXPECT TO SEE SOME.

she rode in on YOUR coattails. If you did ANYTHING last year to help the Dems, she has YOU to thank for where she is now - not only elected to Congress but part of the DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY. YOUR efforts/OUR efforts are what put her there. WE are the reason Nancy Pelosi gets to sit where she does during the State of the Union address.

And they'd best not forget that.

29. Oh. Yes. It. DOES.
Even the enemy needs to hear the groundswell. Even if they blow you off. If they get enough calls from people like you, at least it'll give 'em cold sweats and fitful sleep at night.

This is, as Harry Reid just said today, "Mr. NINE PERCENT," okay? cheney's poll numbers are lower than HE is as a human being. The lowest of anybody in this wretched White House.

DO. IT. ANYWAY.

If they're republi-CON, it'll remind them of another groundswell that they could not prevent and did not survive - the one last November. The one that swept Democrats back into power. You can try arguing with a groundswell if you want to, but it doesn't work for long.

And if they're Dems, THEY need to be reminded of that - the change WE ALL made happen last November, AND WHY we made it happen: TO REIN IN THIS WHITE HOUSE AND THIS ONE-PARTY GOVERNMENT - AND ITS ABUSES OF POWER. TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE AND MAKE THEM STOP.

Sorry to shout, but I've made this argument til I'm blue in the face. Never mind. I'll keep making it. Time was, things WERE stacked against us. Times CHANGE.

Besides, my friend and fellow Good Guy, remember THIS: there's a tell-all book about the pressure put on the CIA to provide "intel" to justify the invasion of Iraq. That book is coming out next week. That book is by a guy whose name you might recall: george tenet. Those who've read it say it'll curl your hair. It will nail cheney to the wall - since HE specifically was behind leaning on the CIA, sometimes bodily, and in person, to come up with anything the White House could use to justify this war and scare the bejeezus out of all Americans - so we'd be nice and softened-up and compliant. It's to be featured on "60 Minutes" this very next Sunday. If there isn't support for IMPEACHING cheney before then, there will be afterwards. And YOU will have laid the groundwork, underscoring that this measure has lots of support.

40. You know, I've done this every time for six years now. I'm going to pass this time.
Everytime someone starts a thread on DU over the last six years saying something like "OMG THIS IS HUGH!! CALL NOW AND SOMETHING IMPORTANT WILL HAPPEN" exactly nothing happens.

I've totally lost any confidence in this "system" we insultingly call a representative democracy. And I think the sooner we figure out that our voice doesn't matter, the sooner we can start talking about revolution rather than continuing to kiss the whip.

I know it's discouraging. I've felt that way many times.

There WAS a time when all looked lost. And now there are MANY MANY White House feet held to the fire. I myself never thought I'd actually see this day, when even ONE Congressman would have the cojones to step up like this. FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY, one of 'em has. Used to be, at one time, NONE of them did. So we're ahead by one.

Check your PM, if I dare be so bold. And don't lose all hope! As our own Class Warrior might say, NGU (Never Give Up)!

59. Hi Exiled! Something here that might encourage you - even if only just a bit
It's a post I wrote a few days ago during another one of those fabulous moments when I was QUITE full of myself (uh... er... when am I NOT??? :) ). It was written to encourage someone else here who was as frustrated as you are. Just something to think about, strategery-wise...

Not so that it does no good to call your reps. Even if they're among

the enemy camp, it's VERY good to call them and help them start to get a clearer view of just how seriously surrounded they are.

A republi-CON with a tight sphincter is a lovely thing. And a few of them (not yours, most likely, considering who they are) may wind up being this era's Barry Goldwater (Goldwater being the point man taking "that" message to richard nixon - to resign or be impeached, because the last of his support in Congress had utterly collapsed). In fact, I called that coburn guy today, I could tell the staffer who answered my call reluctantly agreed with everything I said. I could tell by the tone of voice and the begrudging agreement with my points. That's one staffer who will not rest very easy tonight. And those staffers do share what they've heard and seen, in fact they probably each have to write up a report of some kind on what kind of phone traffic they had that day. This staffer will share a disquieting conversation that she would probably have given anything not to have to hear, especially if she found herself deep-down sharing my view (that gonzo has to resign, that he's making the whole party look bad, helping to make them look bad enough to lose more momentum and all hopes of regaining the majority - in the next election).

DO IT ANYWAY. Because you WANT the enemy unnerved. You WANT their sense of security, stability, and invulnerability shattered, their nerves rattled, their sleep fitful. You WANT them tied up in knots. You WANT them reverting to a few extra drinks, a few more valium, a few more Maalox. You WANT their stomachs angry and filled with acid all the time. They have a LOT of defense - REALLY SERIOUS defense to play (serious enough to be talking about some pretty heavy legal trouble, perjury, obstruction of justice, maybe even doin' time..., and worst of all, losing elections!). But playing defense this extreme takes FOCUS. LOTS of it. And if they're stressed out, not sleeping well, and scared to death about 2008 with the handwriting already on the wall that they don't want to face but can't help reading, then they CAN'T focus. And they'll further blow their game. You DEFINITELY want them upset, stressed out, nervous, despondent, discouraged, fighting with the spouse/lover/kids/neighbors/roommates, filled with a sense of dread, nursing some nice new ulcers in the making. You WANT their fingernails gnawed down to the knuckles, tossing and turning in bed at night and waking up in a cold sweat. And starting to panic. And to make more mistakes. They're NOT on top of their game that way, and that's EXACTLY where we want 'em. EXACTLY where we want 'em.

Besides, these staffers and congressional aides ALL talk. Gossip. Cry in their beer after hours together. They ALL talk. This stuff gets around. And if you demoralize one staffer, he or she might turn around and share the dreadful, worrisome stuff they just heard with another colleague, and demoralize THAT person also. So you get two for the price of one. They ALL talk. They ALL go get coffee together, grab a smoke together, go to the cafeteria together or share Chinese takeout after hours together. And word spreads. Might as well help spread the frayed nerves, too!

For the sheer sake of DESTABILIZING THE ENEMY, you should be calling them. ANYWAY. This is the proverbial infrastructure, like a bridge. You're like the resistance fighter sneaking a small bomb under one of the supports of one of the enemy's bridges. Boom! The support fails. Then the whole bridge does. Besides, you never know who you're talking to, and who could be the next defector... with a few songs to sing or a little inside dope to smoke... Either because they've just given up and want to stay out of trouble, OR they have something of their own to protect.

DO IT ANYWAY. Destabilizing the enemy is a MOST worthy effort here, especially now. Especially since we've got SO MUCH raw material to work with, and the momentum and public opinion are both with us.

Cheers back atcha!

Frankly, we ALL need to think outside the box with these people. They're VERY devious, and they're quite good at it. So we have to out-think them to stay ahead of them, and of course, ultimately to defeat them.

What I always try to remember are the watchwords of the character Mad-Eye Moody in the later Harry Potter books. Mad-Eye Moody is a VERY banged-up veteran of some evidently horrendous wizarding wars. He's got battle-scars all over himself. He teaches Harry Potter and friends the "Defense Against the Dark Arts" class, in one of the books. He frequently exhorts his students, in class and outside of class: "CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!" I think that's a pretty darn good reminder for US, here, and elsewhere in the progressive underground. We're up against kkkarl rove, the bush/cheney machinery, the richard mellon scaifes of the world, and of course the whole RNC/Pox Noise/limbaugh juggernaut. That's a daunting collection of adversaries. They've been plotting, planning, building, and investing in this take-over quest of theirs for 40-some-odd years. They learn very decisively from past mistakes. Ever wonder why, up til now, some of 'em seldom (if ever, in bush and cheney's case) have agreed to, or bothered to, testify UNDER OATH? It's because they know that's what finally nailed Clinton. Ever wonder why they went to such extremes to bully the media into not showing the soldiers' coffins and body bags coming back to the States from the war, no flag-draped coffins, no funerals, no coverage? Serious penalties if you dared to defy this? That's because constant coverage of that sort of thing during the Vietnam War on the evening news EVERY NIGHT eventually soured the public, BIGTIME, against the war. This regime happens to be FILLED with refugees from the Watergate, post-Watergate, reagan, and bush-1 regimes. People like cheney and rummy saw how Watergate left the presidency defanged and resented the hell out of it, and how the nonstop persecution of Clinton annoyed that administration like a nonstop cloud of gnats.

They learned. And they carefully built this HUGE, awesome machinery, this infrastructure of media control, across-theboard power, and all kinds of ways to outthink us, surround us, and keep us on the defensive. They've invested in big-ass think tanks where their most shrewd and devious minds can hide out during the periods when they're out of power, and churn out lots of things like books and position papers and other published crap that then allows them to go on radio and TV and write op/eds and guest commentaries in major newspapers and magazines, to further spread their message. Meantime, those think tanks are also busily grooming the next generation of jackals all well-trained, well-scripted, well-funded, well-connected, and well-motivated, ready to run for office, take over institutions, get nominated for appointee positions from which they can jump to bigger and better things. Kinda like those armies of clones in one of the "Star Wars" films. Publishing all that crap then gives them "credentials" that build on their "reputation" as "experts" - thus further elevating them in respectability. Their richard vigueries and ralph reeds worked from the bottom up, starting YEARS ago, starting foundations and study groups and funding infrastructures and grassroots organizing, trying to win itty bitty victories like obscure little school board seats and local stuff - FROM WHICH THEY COULD BUILD, AND GAIN GROUND, AND GAIN CLOUT, AND GO HIGHER. Happily enough, Howard Dean is now doing that for OUR side with his 50-State Strategy. It works. Look what happened last November, just for starters.

They're big, strong, daunting, intimidating, with mucho bigtime firepower and all the money of Midas. They seriously remind me of the Empire in "Star Wars," seemingly invincible with all those terrifying weapons and huge, imposing Death Stars and unbelievable powers. Or maybe Goliath. But even Goliath had a weakness. So did the Death Star.

And then there's us. They may be the big, fearsome Death Star, alright, and we may be teeny, but we also have maneuverability, we can stop on a dime, accelerate in a heartbeat, with a turning radius that you can wrap around your wrist. They may be Goliath, but WE are David. And we all know who won that one.

They are COUNTING on us not calling their bluff. They are COUNTING on us being afraid. They are COUNTING on us being intimidated. They are COUNTING on us to cave and write ourselves off as losers before we even suit up. They're COUNTING on us to believe the bullshit and the smoke and mirrors and all their manufactured PR and give up before we even try to fight. We win one from them already if we refuse to play that game - of THEIRS. I don't want to do that. I'd rather play MY game. OUR game. For myself personally, I don't have a lot of money or position or connections, but what I can do is strategize how psy-ops, even on a small, individual scale, can win even one teeny little battle. I don't mind being the termite that starts chewing into the huge, reinforced, water-proofed wooden dam. If enough of us get to work on it, eventually that dam starts looking like a piece of swiss cheese. And then it fails. You use what you have. Hate to quote scummy rummy, but okay, maybe you do go to war with the army you have, not the army you want or wish to have. So to speak. So we work with what we've got. And even if we're little, there are STILL things we can do - that start to add up. We just need to KEEP working, stay creative so we can outthink the enemy, and maintain that CONSTANT VIGILANCE.

Howard Dean said the only way we lose is if we give up. And funny enough, as of last November, we suddenly weren't all that little anymore, were we?

 :headbang: :toast:

111. Hey, don't be too hard on him - it might be understandable if you have
rat-shits for "representation."

I'd suggest first of all, calling ANYWAY, the better to unnerve them just a little bit more...

And then, assuming that's still frustrating and unsatisfying as all hell, CALL SOMEBODY ELSE'S REPS - Democrats or wavering republi-CONS like maybe christopher shays of Connecticut, who got the bejeezus scared out of him last November because he almost lost. He feels the hot breath of the political Grim Reaper to this day, I'll bet.

OR, BETTER YET, CALL NANCY PELOSI'S OFFICE!!! Put it to her. Remind her staffers that she/they wouldn't be in this fabulous, history-making position now if it weren't for US, THE BASE. WE are the ones who worked, lobbied, petitioned, emailed, walked precincts, stuffed envelopes, distributed flyers, gathered signatures, talked to our neighbors, friends, family members and coworkers, and GAVE TIL IT HURT - so OUR DEMS would get back into power. WE made it happen for people like her.

SURELY she's aware by now (and it might be shrewd to remind her of this, too) of the mounting evidence of skullduggery (or however it's spelled), incompetence, malfeasance, cheating, lying, questionable behavior, rule-bending, and outright law-breaking that Henry Waxman alone has been digging up, and that Patrick Leahy over in the Senate has unearthed also. SURELY she's aware of at least some of this by now. I've been asking people, when I call, "Hey, haven't we reached High Crimes and Misdemeanors by now? Are we there yet??? Haven't you seen enough??? Isn't the proof in the pudding all over the kitchen and into the dining room??? We're the ones who brought her to this dance. She better keep dancing with us. We are OWED.

If I were her, I wouldn't want The Base pissed off. I would want to make sure they/we stick around, robust as ever and rarin' to go, in November, 2008. WHERE might we be if she pees on the parade now?
(Answer: we'd probably still be here, but with a LOT less enthusiasm, tighter purse-strings, and MUCH less motivation.)

121. I know, you are right
I just got tired reading all the naysayers posts on the subject. I truly wish all DU'ers would realize that only by taking firm action can we rid ourselves of the stain of the past six years and regain some standing in the world community. Saying what we want and actually doing it are two very different things, a fact which has escaped many here on DU and in DC.

123. Agreed. I'm trying in every way I can think of to keep people fired up.
It IS understandable, though, how easily one can get discouraged about all this. There's a HELLUVA lot to get discouraged about, thanks to the bush and his "loyal bushies." This whole country is almost down for the count. It definitely would be if the bad guys had been allowed to keep running amok, but November 2006 took care of that one.

But WE have the momentum now, and we better damned well jump on it and keep it going and growing!

I posted elsewhere here, but it's worth a repeat - Howard Dean said that the only way we lose is if we give up. And I sure won't be giving up NOW!

And don't forget - george tenet's book is coming out next week and those who've seen it say it's a real humdinger. And it nails cheney especially hard. Just more wood for the fire, I'd say.

71. Doesn't matter. She, especially, is already on the ropes.
Hers is one of the tightest sphincters in Washington outside rove's and cheney's (and maybe our old friend mark foley's!). She's targeted on one of the progressive lists (I apologize - I forget which one just now) as extremely vulnerable in the next election - and evidently she didn't exactly get a robust lease extension last time. Let her feel the walls closing in - even tighter. Let's see her sweat!

She won't be convinced, it's true. But she'll be offering her kingdom for another bottle of Maalox.

And see posts 59 and 66 for more.

In cases like these when we lose, we STILL WIN in another respect.

It echoes what I posted in numerous threads in the past hour. It is past time for "We the People" to take some responsbility in our governance. Sitting in front of the computer and whining that "It will never work" is taking the easy way out. I am glad we have a Congressman who knows the difference between complaining and actually doing something.

81. BTW: If you have a complete neanderthal as a representative and
you've already spoken to closed ears and closed minds (and yes, despite this, STILL, do it ANYWAY! Makes 'em nervous!), consider using those TOLL FREE numbers to call somebody else's congressperson. Perhaps someone more friendly and receptive.

Besides, you just never know. Yours may be the call that breaks the camel's back with some wavering Democrat who'd kinda like to do this but isn't sure and doesn't quite get what the folks at home think yet, and doesn't know whether he/she should stick the ol' neck out. YOURS might be THE call that tips 'em over and gives them just that one little extra ounce of courage to stand up and support this.

I am writing to request Congressman Price's support
for H.R. 333, Articles of Impeachment against Vice President
Richard B Cheney.

It is about time! Finally, a member of the House of Representatives stands up for the rule of law, the Constitution, and the democratic form of government in this country. Members of Congress have a Constitutional responsibility to hold the Vice President accountable for his actions which led to this unjust and illegal pre-emptive invasion and occupation of Iraq, a country which was not a threat to the national security of the United States.

Do your job!

200. HEY! I just called him a couple of hours ago myself!
Truly. And, in his case, with all sincerity. Sometimes I feel like being a little more compassionate. I pointed out that, as a Henry Waxman constituent, I was watching the Tillman hearings yesterday (when I wasn't crying my eyes out and posting here like a madwoman) and I THINK I saw that he was the ONLY republi-CON who bothered to take the time and ask questions with gentility and sensitivity to this poor mom and her family. I thanked him for it.

Then I said - and this is no jive or subterfuge, this is EXACTLY how I feel - I wanted to appeal to him because I feel that of all the republi-CONS there, he might be one of the better, more reasonable ones. And I invited him, if he cares about rehabilitating his party, to join with us and with Dennis Kucinich. In fact, I invited him to come over and change parties, because there was a seat all set at our table waiting for him - and with really nice silverware. I told him that he seemed to be one of those who from time to time actually did put nation over party, and I noticed and appreciated that. And I said it would be lovely to see him show leadership in this regard, and clean up his house. And wouldn't that be so preferable to US having to do it for you guys?

I used the honey approach rather than the vinegar, which I used in a verbal enema to tom davis's and darrel issa's offices yesterday. With them I was combative. With shays I put the pretty embroidered velvet gloves back on. The ones with the lacy, girly trim.

Sometimes, it's advantageous to mix it up with these people. KNOW YOUR TARGETS and vary your approaches - like the moving target in the sparring class - don't always use the same techniques. SPEAK FROM THE HEART. BE SINCERE, NOT PHONY. That way you'll be working with truth and integrity. Offer sugar rather than sulfuric acid. This guy is a moderate, more or less. One of the lesser-offensive of them. And he damned near got his clock cleaned last November. Just barely survived. I VERY gently reminded him of that. Sometimes you might just plant a seed if you're talking to one who got back in by the skin of his/her teeth, and is already too painfully aware that he/she hangs by a thread in '08 (when OUR case will be all the stronger). He or she might also be a little too painfully aware that the stuff perpetrated by the party is starting to become just a little too much to stomach or defend anymore. The target may already be pre-softened. You don't have to break up the soil. Just drop in the seed.

I'm very pleased with the line "if you don't clean up your own house, we're going to do it for you. It will happen eventually, one way or the other. Wouldn't you be a LOT more comfortable being proactive and doing it on your own terms?"

190. I just called & was not laughed at. The staffer asked my name & address...
... which I gave (I'm not from Florida). I informed her that the reason that I was calling was that a friend from Florida, represented by the Congressman, had just called his office & was laughed at, that I did not at all appreciate that my friend was laughed at, that this is a serious matter, a matter of upholding the Constitution, and as such, I would appreciate the Congressman's co-sponsorship of H Res 333, the Articles of Impeachment against Richard B. Cheney, as his Constitutional obligation.

The staffer thanked me & stated that she would pass my comment on.

199. The SECOND I Heard About This...
I was on the horn to my Congressman's office.
They have to LET IT BE KNOWN, that the AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL NOT STAND FOR THESE CRIMINALS IN OFFICE!!!!!!!!

I followed up with an e-mail, and a postal mail that I sent this morning.

Thanks for letting people know.

EVERY DUer should be on the phone. Check that... Should have ALREADY BEEN on the phone to his or her Congresscritter, and DEMANDED that they vote for these articles of impeachment. It's the beginning of the PEOPLE taking back our country.

202. I posted to a different site that should also direct to my Senators.

Dear Senators;

With Democrats in a position to investigate and uncover the truth about this administration's often illegal behaviors, it is in every citizen's best interest and our civic duty to call for impeachment of these high level officials who believe themselves above the law.

WE THE PEOPLE DEMAND OUR RIGHT TO DUE PROCESS against an administration that has gone against the very spirit of the Constitution by their flagrant disregard for the rule of law.

I'd like to add that Cheney's part in the Valerie Plame Wilson's outing has made our entire country LESS SAFE and I want to know in the cover company that was outed with her, how many agents and/or contacts did we lose that could have helped us REALLY know the status of other country's nuclear capabilities?

I'd also like to know how much profit Cheney has made from all the non-bid contracts Haliburton has gotten since he's been in the office of Vice President.

Please do your part, WE THE PEOPLE deserve the truth about what has been done to our country and what has been done in our name so we can take steps to clear this mess up and get the offenders out of office who think their position gives them the right to rob America blind at the voting booth and through wasted and mis-directed tax monies going secretly to who knows where to support who knows what because this administration has tried to lock down every fact away from the prying eyes of the people.

THAT HAS TO STOP.

WE MUST HAVE THE TRUTH ABOUT THESE MATTERS.

IMPEACHMENT is our Due Process. Please. Please show the World that Minnesota has the courage to face the truth and ask the hard questions.

203. Don't impeach Cheney!
Are you all mad? Give Bush a chance to choose a new VP? It's got to be both or nothing!

205. Even to Repub reps? Does it do any good
In Missouri my reps are repubs but I sent emails anyway but does anyone think it does any good because these people don't care about anything but their party. McCaskill is in the Senate. Any good to ask her for support since this is a House Resolution?
