AUSTRALIAN Open referees will double as fashion police to stamp out skimpy outfits after Alize Cornet caused a stir with a see-through top at the Hopman Cup.

Open officials have threatened fines of up to $2000 for any player caught flouting its strict dress code.

The 18-year-old wore a short skirt and revealing, see-through top during a doubles match at the tournament in Perth...

3. Sports institutions tend to be stodgy
Kind of surprising though since topless women sunbathing on the beach aren't particularly rare, and nudity on TV is no big deal.
