New Hampshire now 5th state to allow same-sex marriage

After 19 years, Linda Murphy and Donna Swartwout tied the knot at 12:01 a.m. Friday, when New Hampshire's law legalizing same-sex marriage took effect.

They were among several couples early Friday who married on the steps of the New Hampshire Statehouse in Concord, under a full moon.

At midnight, New Hampshire became the fifth state to allow same-sex couples to marry, joining Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts and Iowa.

The couple, who live in Hudson, New Hampshire, said they wanted to be married as soon as they could.

2. I hope the states keep doing this, until RWers realize that it doesn't do
them any harm.

8. Mass, Connecticut, Vermont, Iowa, and New Hampshire, roughly in that order.

Maine and California had it, but rescinded it by "popular" vote.

9. yep
from wiki

'Same-sex marriage, also referred to as gay marriage, is marriage between two persons of the same sex. The federal government of the United States does not recognize the marriages of same sex couples and is prohibited from doing so by the Defense of Marriage Act. Nationwide, four states have legalized same-sex marriage as a result of a court ruling, while three others have done so through a vote in their respective state legislatures.

Same-sex marriages are currently granted in five of the 50 states and are scheduled to begin being granted in one federal district:

In Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, New Hampshire and Vermont, marriages for same sex couples are legal and currently performed.
In Washington, D.C., same-sex marriages could begin as early as February, 2010.<1>
The Coquille Indian Tribe in Oregon has also legalized same-sex marriage. '

13. In California, it was granted by the State Supreme Court on state constitutional grounds...
...("equal protection", IIRC) but the citizens then amended
the State Constitution (through Question 8) to provide
explicitly remove those rights from some people.

7. Ain't that the way it works? Ya legalize gay marriage and next thing ya know, it snows like Hell!
Oh, wait, it does that several times every winter, even before
Equal Marriage was a gleam in anyone's eye. And it turns out
that this storm isn't hitting New Hampshire all that hard;
it's kinda light-and-fluffy and was actually quite pretty
when we were out driving in it a little while ago.

On the other hand, Maine is apparently getting pounded quite
hard by this storm -- go figure, huh?
