Immigration Reform is next on the Agenda (MSNBC reports)

Immigration reform in an election year?


No matter what happens here we will be alienating a portion of the electorate. I am all for immigration reform but this looks like political suicide.

If we are sold out (again) and the 'pukes get their way we will be throwing away the Hispanic vote.

If we are able to pass some reasonable legislation the 'pukes will argue that with unemployment at 10% we should not be allowing so many low wage workers to work legally and take jobs away from "hard working Americans". Then they will spin some crazy terrorist risk our of all these "outsiders" in our country.


This looks like a loss to me no matter what happens.


Can anyone think of a politically beneficial outcome?

Unless the Democrats try to work in a "bipartisan" way and we get a horrible bill, just so the President can veto it! Maybe they figure we can't get anything done this year anyways so it may be time for some political theater.

This is the only possible beneficial outcome I can imagine.

Wait until you see what Big Bidness and the Chamber of Commerce do to immigration reform. By the time they're done all it will be is a giant funnel to bring in thousands of people they can pay less than minimum wage. In a time of high unemployment.

8. It's Politically Idiotic.

With voter turnout always down in non-presidential election years, and with a populist trend amongst the electorate in 2010, pushing immigration 'reform' that will include amnesty and a "path to citizenship" is just stupid.

Especially if unemployment and under-employment are still in double digits.

Making immigration 'reform' a top legislative agenda item next is like handing the keys to the House Speaker's office to Mr. Boehner on a silver platter.

What are they thinking?

Something is clearly wrong with the folks inhabiting Washington ... the Democrats are tone deaf and the Repugs are just plain insane. I'm trending myself towards a complete "throw 'em all out" attitude. We need a strong, progressive insurgency in the Democratic Party or the birth of a credible progressive third party in this country.

It's looking like the mega-transnational corporations really do own both political parties and most of the federal government. Don't forget, the strongest advocates for immigration 'reform' are the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and many of the country's most powerful corporations, because in the long run they want an overpopulated, low-wage nation here.
