Officials: Possible terror attack on Northwest jet
CNN is reporting it as "fireworks". http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/12/25/airliner.firecrackers/index.html

Who to believe?

"A 23-year-old Nigerian man tried to light a powdery substance aboard a Northwest Airlines flight before landing in Detroit on Friday, a senior U.S. counterterrorism official told NBC News.

Two people noticed the attempt and a third person jumped on the man and subdued him, an airline official told NBC News.

The man is being treated at the burn unit of the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, officials said.

The man told investigators that he wanted to set off a bomb over the United States, and the incident is being handled as a possible terrorism attack by both law enforcement and intelligence agencies, senior counterterrorism officials said..."

12. Good. Pack those things in your bags
It's not like you can smoke on the plane, anyway.

Buy some of the nicotine gum to tide you over until you get your bags off the plane. After all, there's no reason to suffer nicotine withdrawal on a flight if you don't have to.

7. The security would have been handled by officials in Amsterdam,
not the TSA. I've been through security in AMS and it seemed pretty thorough. I wonder how this dude got firecrackers on the airplane?

11. That;'s what I am thinking
I know that TSA is not that thorough, as much as they claim otherwise, having flown from other places in the world.

I just added time at the airport, instead of family.

14. Thank goodness for HSecurity & all the rest of our vaunted
military/defense geniuses who only want to protect and defend us. Now, what else do we have to do to make sure our budgets
get hefty increases? Should we designate 2010 as the "Year of Terror"? Would THAT convince you, Mr. and Mrs. Senator?
