Bankers 'like Scrooge' says Charles Dickens's great-great-grandson
Edited on Tue Dec-22-09 04:38 PM by ck4829
Gerald Dickens, an actor, said he thought his great-great-grandfather would have been "completely frustrated" at the issue of bankers' bonuses.

It showed society had failed to learn from the story of A Christmas Carol, in which the selfish miser Ebenezer Scrooge eventually turns his life around after being visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

Mr Dickens, 46, who performs in a one-man touring show of his predecessor's tale, said: "The fact the same issues are just as prevalent now rather shows we have not learned from the story.

"There are still massive problems of homelessness and a huge divide between rich and poor.

"If you look at the whole issue of bankers' bonuses, it sums A Christmas Carol up in a nutshell.

"My great-great-grandfather would have been completely frustrated and he would not have stopped until he had seen something done about it."

Dr Robert Douglas-Fairhurst, a fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, and an expert on Charles Dickens, agreed.

Merry Christmas to all... well all of those who are too big to fail.

5. Scrooge was MIDDLE CLASS
He was the equivalent of a small businessman today. The REAL money was held by the aristocracy.

As it is today.
