Gore Team Awaits Signal: from Huffpo
from the london telegraph.
<snip>
Friends of Al Gore have secretly started assembling a campaign team in preparation for the former American vice-president to make a fresh bid for the White House.

Two members of Mr Gore's staff from his unsuccessful attempt in 2000 say they have been approached to see if they would be available to work with him again.

One of his former campaign team said: "I was asked whether I would be available towards the end of the year if I am needed. They know he has not ruled out running and if he decides to jump in, he will have to move very fast.

The second aide approached by Vice-President Gore's allies said: "There is no love lost between Gore and Hillary. They don't think she can win and they're probably right. If Gore runs, he's got a really good chance of getting the nomination. And he has a good chance of pulling off the election, too."

Among the senior officials not yet committed is Michael Whouley, who was national field director for the successful Clinton-Gore 1992 presidential campaign, national campaign manager for Mr Gore when he stood for re-election as vice-president in 1996, and then a senior adviser to Mr Gore in 2000.

Considered one of the most talented Democratic "ground war" experts, he masterminded John Kerry's political resurrection in the New Hampshire presidential primary three years ago, putting him on course for the nomination. Last year, he oversaw the Democratic victory in the mid-term elections.

Two months ago, a former Gore aide, Elaine Kamarck, convened a group of former aides in Boston to consider the possibilities of a Gore campaign

12. Flyarm - could you be my Gore for President donation buddy?
I am gonna need help to NOT send him the money I need to pay my mortgage...

Vacation? Don't need it.
New windows? Ha! Well, actually, they would be double-paned...
New glasses to replace the ones that are so badly scratched? AFTER HE IS IN THE OVAL OFFICE. Then I'll be able to see the speeches from a real, elected President more clearly.

I am tryin' not to get excited... The world can be so disappointing...

I will work, we will prevail, no matter who runs.

Meanwhile... sigh...

19. i wish i could but i am an elected delegate..so i can not do that..
until the next primary and election for delegates..i remain a delegate for my county and state..so i can not do that..but there should be plenty of people who can help you!!

but nore important that money..there will be plenty you can do on the ground where you are to make Gore our president..the Real President..

it isn't just money ..its the work..and there will be plenty to do when Gore throws his name in ...

its the work that really matters..there are phone calls..walking the streets..amking food for staff..when they get set up in your area..housing the field reps..helping with rally's..making signs..doing computer work for absentee ballorts..driving seniors to vote in the primary and general..

oh the list goes on and on..

its the people work that gives us a president..one we can be proud of..

if Gore gets in..it will be a whirlwind..and more important than money will be good people on the ground donating their time!!

love ya honey..we will need everyones help and i know you will be there!!

20. John came out early and endorsed Edwards.
I've been holding out for Gore.

I was going to make an appointment to meet some people in Chapel Hill while I'm in the Carolinas in 2 weeks. I'll hold off on that now.

9. I know four DIEHARD republicans
who voted for bush twice... that will FULLY support Gore. (They were full blown bushbots that saw the light early after the second stolen election)
If he really is running, I think it may be a landslide.

11. What's The Hurry??
He'll save hours of corporate media trashing and millions of dollars. I'm glad to hear President Gore is assembling a staff and is carefully looking at things. He's no fool...he's seeing his moment and it hasn't arrived yet. If anything President Gore has learned in his Hollywood days is timing.

Those playing the game now are doing so for the money and the exposure. Gore needs neither. If anything, he could set records for the least amount spent since there are few issues we don't know where he stands...the money raised would be needed to counter the right wing, Repugnican and corporate media spins that surely will start the moment he hints at announcing.

Keep in mind, Robert Kennedy didn't announce his candidacy in '68 until after New Hampshire...it didn't take him long to raise both the staff and money to be the front runner in no time. Surely President Gore sees this example.

13. The time is shorter than we think.
While it may be true that Bobby Kennedy waited until the last minute to run for the nomination, things are vastly different these days, more complicated, more sophisticated, with backers linig up much earlier to support candidates.

If I were Al, I wouldn't wait until the end of the year.

15. This is a joke. I expect better from HuffPo.
It's not the "Gore team". He isn't involved with it, and apparently the people doing it aren't even a "team", they're just sniffing around.

I'm not sure what this is, but calling it the "Gore team" is not respectful of Al Gore.
