2. 'It isn't snowing* yet.'
Famous last words in a lot of cases. You might get in, but when will you be able to get out?
(* substitute another appropriate word for your problem)

3. Another Mainer says
STAY HOME!! You may be able to get there, but what about getting home? Grab a blanket, good book, a cup of tea & some chocolate. You've got a snow day.

4. Okay ....
... I will.

IT'S STUPID TO DRIVE!

Bayshore native here. Used to commute on the LIRR.

Often caught between Babylon Station and home - for hours - in a snowstorm.

Don't do it.

15. Thanks, I needed some voices of reason! Just to keep roads clear for snowplows is reason enough

8. NC here it quit snowing here bout 12 last night
We have about 8 or 10 inches of snow that is a rare event here, usually we might get a 2 or 3 inches of snow that is gone later that day or maybe the day after.
The have a foot or more over toward the Foothills of the Appalachians.
We live just about 15 miles South of Danville Va.
The local weather says maybe some icy rain to cap off the snow.
Its kind of wet very good for snow balls.
When it started to come down yesterday about 1 it was an all at once and really affected visibility.

TV just said the Asheville area got about 2feet.

If you don't have to go out I would not, but if you do take your emergency kit and snow chains and try to get back home soonest. I hear WDC got socked pretty good.
Looks like a Currier and Ives print out there with the snow piled on the trees and fences. ..our car will be parked today. We live up a dirt road off of a secondary narrow 2 lane road which may or may not get scraped.

The dogs had a blast out romping.

So we have stuff to make Christmas cookies.
Some wonderful chowder that a coworker gave to my partner.
I may make bread..excuse to run the oven and help keep the house warm, thow the kero heater does keep it about 70 in 3/4 of the house but the oven going and the smell of baking cookies mmm.

9. If you drive in
you probably won't be able to drive back unless they are REALLY efficient on clearing those roads. Was bad enough down here that while digging out my car, by the time I was halfway done the part I dug out already had a solid layer fall on it again. Been a while since I had the opportunity to drive around in low gear!

11. Every time there is a hurricane or tsunami warning, we see people
on surfboards waiting for the big one - and many get injured.

Every time there are snow storms, we see evidence that driving isn't necessarily the safest thing to do - and many get injured.

Storm coming your way - not necessarily safe to drive - make your decision, do what you want to.

14. Stay home
There it's been said. Make or bake something yummy to give to your neighbor who owns a snowblower ;-) or get some good books or movies before the snow hits. Stay safe and warm :hi:

16. worst storm I've ever been in
Edited on Sat Dec-19-09 09:12 AM by flobee1
-camping in the infield of the speedway in Michigan-
We were watching the stormclouds roll by all day. Right at sunset it started to sprinkle. Someone in our group then says the caddyshack quote "I dont think the hard stuff is gonna come down for a while yet"-as soon as the words leave his mouth, the heavens open! In the 45 minute storm that hit, the infield was flooded almost to my knees, and a tornado passed by 2 miles from the track. I had stupidly dove in my tent to avoid getting wet, not even considering thet I might be sitting in 2 feet of water and holding up the walls of my tent to prevent collapse from the wind. While the lightning was flashing and wing was blowing, I prayed that after the lightning struck my tent, my camping buddies would scoop the ashes out of my sleeping bag and give me a decent funeral.

-moral of the story?
DON"T TEASE MOTHER NATURE!
She can her you and will make you pay for any smartass coments about the weather!
:)

Stay indoors and in front of a fireplace-let the roadcrews do their thing and relax with a bailys and coffee!
and a good movie to watch during a snowstorm- Fargo :)
