Did any Dem Senators comment on Senator Franken's exchange with
Lieberman?

I know the Republicans are pissing and moaning, but I'm hoping some Dems came out in support.

I haven't been tuned in for a couple of days, so I may have missed the reactions.

Thanks!

1. Only one I saw was Harry Deid. He said he told all Sens that
if you are in the chair and controling time, hold everyone to their time!

Now do I think Frankin had another motive too? HELL YES! And I support him for it! But that's his cover.

3. Good for Harry! And I heard someone on (I think) Thom Hartmann's show
this morning saying that every Dem gaveling should do the same to Lieberman to make the statement that his betrayal has been noticed and they're pissed. I hope they do that.

I love that Franken did that! And that Harry gave him the 'out'. :hi:

2. Dunno
But Tweety had a clip of McCain objecting to extended time for Robert Byrd in 2002.

4. Wasn't it Leahy who interjected with McCain's tirade to say
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 07:32 PM by hlthe2b
that holding Senators to the restricted time limit so as to move forward the health care debate had been done earlier in the day as well (and was NOT precedent-setting as McCain suggested)

Edited to correct that it was Carl Levin (not Leahy) who interjected

5. I heard that Leahy said that -- but none of the news today seems to be
including that in the 'coverage' -- only playing Franken/Lieberman, then McCain's whining.

6. Yes, Carl Levin refreshed Mr. McCain's memory
If you've seen the clip, you've seen Lieberman accept the objection with a good grace, and a motion for unanimous consent to have his remarks entered into the record as if fully read. There was no objection, and Lieberman sat down. It was McCain who got all huffy about the "comity" of the Senate being destroyed single-handedly by Franken. Carl Levin got up to remind McCain that the exact same thing had happened just that morning when another Senator bumped up against the 10 minute limit, which was being strictly enforced per the Majority Leader's orders.

Also, it might behoove folks to know, McCain did the exact same thing in 2002, when the Senate was debating whether to give Bush imperial powers, and Mark Dayton of Minnesota wanted an extra 30 seconds to say that maybe that was a bad idea:

But of course, Straight-Talkin' Johnny Maverick doesn't remember that, just like he doesn't remember how many houses he owns.

9. It's like they don't even care that they're caught lying. They have no shame,
and their followers don't seem to mind, either.

8. This is a bit off topic, but remember when that fat fuck Sensenbrenner
cut the mikes to a committee meeting being held by John Conyers and then had the lights turned off? Talk about disrespect. Remember when Dickie pig valves told Patrick Leahy to fuck off on the floor of the Senate. Very classy. Where does it say Dems can be treated like fools and buffoons while Repugs must be treated with deference? Fuck them.

Thank you Senator Franken from the bottom of my heart. I have enjoyed the clip of your smackdown of J.L. several times and plan to enjoy it some more.

10. I never heard about the cutting the mic and turning off the lights -- unbelievably
rude. I'd heard about Cheney telling Leahy to fuck off, but never heard the specifics. I'll go Google.

You're right, they have no class. They are smarmy and shameless.

11. I do... and I can damned well assure you that Franken does...
I recall him talking about it on his old AAR show.

12. Sensenbrenner was a jerk. I remember he refused to recognize Shelia Jackson Lee at some hearing even
though she was practically sitting next to him. She was talking, and he just kept ignoring her.

I think this was a hearing that was held in a cramped room, and there were witnesses and panel members asking questions of them. Sensenbrenner pulled the plug on the mics on that one too, but the hearing continued. Was a big deal here for a minute.

Cannot remember the details. Maybe this was all the same hearing?

Whatever, Sensenbrenner is a frickin asshole.

13. The dems had already been forced to meet in a basement room.
I don't recall exactly what the meeting was about but I think it was about election fraud. I'll go look too.
