Mary and Joseph poster sparks unholy row (Boom went the dynamite!)
Edited on Thu Dec-17-09 01:32 PM by Are_grits_groceries
A New Zealand church has sparked controversy by putting up a billboard featuring Mary and Joseph in bed.

St Matthews is a progressive Christian Church in the heart of Auckland and its Vicar Glynn Cardy wants people to discuss God.

Outside the church is a biblical bed scene; an unsatisfied Mary looking up to the heavens and Joseph in bed beside her looking deflated

The billboard reads: 'Poor Joseph. God is a hard act to follow'.

A very brave vicar to say the least. Now I know what my Xmas card will be.

4. You can't blame Joseph for feeling a little inadequate--really, what's in it for him
in the God/Mary/Joseph scheme? He gets to raise Jesus (not his kid!) and teach him some carpentry skills, and I'm not sure he and Mary ever, uh, consummated. No one talks about that.

6. Rufus did...in Dogma
"Mary gave birth to CHRIST without having known a man's touch, that's true. But she did have a husband. And do you really think he'd have stayed married to her all those years if he wasn't getting laid? The nature of God and the Virgin Mary, those are leaps of faith. But to believe a married couple never got down? Well, that's just plain gullibility."

7. I thought Jesus was said to have at least one brother in the bible (James?).
That would presume some sort of, um, activity between the happy couple.

5. The billboard reads, "Poor Joseph. God is a hard act to follow."
LOL!!!!!!
So what's the problem with depicting them in bed? They were legally married, weren't they?
LOL!!!!!

P.S. If they hated that, they'd better not read this:

...Here are some of questions that smart couples will discuss with other if they're serious about cementing their relationship -- and some couples who, in retrospect, probably wouldn't have minded having the opportunity to ask them.

...Are you both confident that your commitment can weather any kind of challenge?
Adam and Eve

...If you both want children, what, if any, religious upbringing will you give them?
Mary and Joseph

11. I guess if I were a devout Christian I might be bothered by the implication that
the Almighty pleasured Mary with his superior sex organ, causing marital discord.
Being an atheist, I think it's a hoot!
