Rockefeller slams Dean: 'Nonsense,' 'irresponsible'
Former DNC Chairman Howard Dean's calls to kill the Senate healthcare bill are "nonsense" and "irresponsible," Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) said Wednesday.

Rockefeller, one of the most ardent supporters of the public option in the Senate, sharply broke with Dean, a physician and former Democratic National Committee chairman, who said that Democrats should kill the Senate's health bill because it doesn't contain a public option or Medicare buy-in.

"It's nonsense and it's irresponsible and coming from him as a physician, it's stunning," Rockefeller said during an appearance on MSNBC.

their bribes from insurance companies, hospitals etc. They just may have lost me forever between torture, paying for wars to go on endlessly, and royally fucking the American people who just don't happen to be rich.

7. Hating on Dean while remaining quiet about Lieberman is a bad move by the Dems
Puts their priorities into perspective.

18. One sided criticism is the same
Wheres the WH criticism of Lieberman?

Between the two of them, who is more to blame for the current backlash the WH is dealing with, Joe or Howard?

22. More like 90/10
Nine out of ten people blame Lieberman over Dean on this matter, and for a good reason.

Dean isnt in the Senate making a mockery out of the reform effort.

But Dean is now the enemy to some here simply for pointing out that the important elements that could help people are now stripped from the bill making it worthless. :eyes:

The only one who benefits if this bill fails is the Republicans.

9. You think the Republicans won't benefit if this bill passes?
It's a shitty bill and we all know it, and they will use it against the Democrats every chance they get.

10. Did Rockefeller have similar harsh words for Joe Lieberman?
You know Joe Lieberman, a Senator, who has a vote and vowed to fillibuster a bill with a Medicare buy-in or a public option (as opposed to Dean who has no vote)?

If not he can STFU.

17. very nice post, if only it were true
Health care reform
Rockefeller has been a proponent of a public option, fighting with some Democrats on the finance committee, in particular Max Baucus, the chairman of the committee, who contended that there was not enough support for a public option to gather the 60 votes needed to prevent a filibuster. Baucus asked repeatedly for Rockefeller to stop speaking on the issue.<22>

On September 29, 2009 Rockefeller offered an amendment to the Baucus Health Bill in the Senate Finance Committee to add a public option. The amendment was rejected 15 to 8, with five Democrats (Baucus, Kent Conrad, Blanche Lincoln, Tom Carper, Bill Nelson) and all Republicans voting no.<23>

That's interesting. Just earlier today we were being told that he can only sign what Congress puts in front of him.
