A series of repeated break-in and computer hacking attempts at a Canadian climate research institute are a sign of a "well-orchestrated campaign of harassment" against climate researchers ahead of the Copenhagen summit, several news sources report.

Employees at the University of Victoria, in British Columbia, have revealed that the school's Centre for Climate Modelling has experienced at least two break-ins in recent months, as well as several attempts at hacking into the center's computer network.

4. Yeah, how do we know that those glaciers are really disappearing worldwide?
And those whiny dwellers on low-lying islands -- maybe there should be break ins there to see if they're lying about being increasingly swamped by the ocean.

And maybe the spread of diseases and their vectors from tropical into temporal climates is just part of God's plan, not due to global warming.

Climate change deniers are not just disgusting, they're enemies of humanity!

5. and whats worse is when you get people we trust colluding or hiding info
no matter what side of a debate they are on, or is it okay for one side to hide shit and stuff that maybe reflects badly on what they say but not for the other side. Its shit like this that will stop anyone taking any action on this stuff, just because there is enough dirt on the scientists that people can question their findings.... If you cant see that scientists lying about their figures is wrong then you are beyond hope..

10. lol okay you can believe that, its fine, personally i just want to see all the data released and
what led them to their conclusions, i guess we shouldnt question scientists anymore, or does it just include ones on this subject not the numerous other branches. lol

12. Back up your claim. Who has lied about what? Be specific now.
You're clueless. The data is available. Just because you've been told otherwise doesn't make it so.

14. what claim, i just think that all the data should be out there for people to make decisions on
if its all cut and dried then governments can move forward and implement stuff, but as long as the climategate stuff happens there will always be doubt....

19. wasnt beig specific about any particular scientists just stating that i got no problem with light
being shone on the scientific world, do you think that the emails form climategate helped the cause or do you think that enough doubt has been cast in the minds of the governments attending copenhagen, it all comes down to whether it is iron clad with no appearance of impropriety as to whether the governments can implicate changes. If you dont see that then you are blind to what this leak has done...

20. So no one lied then?
The so-called 'appearance of impropriety' is the result of an organized smear campaign, a manufactroversy. If you don't see that then you are blind to what this leak is about..

21. Admit it. You haven't a clue WHAT data has or hasn't been released.
Hint: It's hidden along with the Birth Certificate.

3. Oil skeptics or coal skeptics?
That's the only question, who is paying them to be skeptical enough to break into a research facility.

9. At some point there's liable to be violence.
I hope I'm wrong but someone somewhere is liable to attack a scientist or something. These people are out of their minds.

11. This is climate data
not secrets. Instead of asking why people want the info, we should be asking why they cannot get it.

you can't be an enemy of the scientific process and skeptical at the same time.

Edited on Fri Dec-04-09 05:56 PM by Canuckistanian
I heard yesterday that the East Anglia break-in happened MONTHS ago, but was only revealed a few weeks ago.

I smell a large, aromatic rodent.
