Afghan Women Say NO to the Surge—Stand with Them:

Sign this petition and stand in solidarity with the women of Afghanistan as they speak out against the surge.

“To fight is not the solution. We have a mouth and a brain, we should talk.” --Dr. H.B. Ghazanfar, Women’s Affairs Minister (Translated by Fawzia Habibi, Director of Coordination & International Relations for the Ministry of Women’s Affairs)

President Obama,

We, the women of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and the United States, implore you to refrain from sending more United States military forces to Afghanistan.

We encourage you to work quickly for a political solution in Afghanistan that will lead to a reconciliation process in which women will fully participate and a withdrawal of foreign military forces.

Sending more military forces will only increase the violence and will do further harm to women in children. Instead, the funds should be redirected to improving the health, education and welfare of the Afghan people.

4. Just curious, how are women and children going to be able to attend
schools and medical facilities when there's no one to stop the Taliban from destroying the buildings, intimidating it's participants into not participating, and so on.

Just wondering.

7. How does killing them enable them to go to school?
Funny thing about invading a country- bombs and bullets don't check your gender or your politics before they kill you. Hell, US forces in Afghanistan can't even seem to keep from firing on each other (or Canadians, etc) to say nothing of Afghani civilians.

16. Your point may be valid but it doesn't address my question or concern.
Without armed forces, how are they going to be protected from the denial of education and other services by the Taliban.

11. Yeah, what do those Afghan women know about Afghanistan?
Let's have a bunch of American keyboard commandos speak for them!

Or maybe they could speak for themselves:

Afghan women were on the road to liberation until some fucking genius decided to get the US government into the 'Great Game'. You know, the same fucking genius who has this president's ear.

14. Sometimes we forget that women are also wives
and mothers of sons, and sisters of brothers. Women who worry about the the health and safety of their families, including the males, are by no means the minority anywhere. It's not surprising that many Afghans, including the women, are willing to trade some/most of their personal independence in exchange for their safety (and the safety of their family) from the bombs and bullets.
