It's a crisis so serious that Republican Congressman from Utah and Texas have held hearings and called for investigations. Not into the Bush's administration's manipulation of Iraq intelligence, its detainee torture, the denial of global warming or the Katrina disaster.

No, the outrage is the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) by which Division I college football annually determines its champion. And in an altogether fitting turn of events, the BCS has selected Ari Fleischer, the same Bush press secretary who faithfully dissembled for his boss on almost every issue, as its new PR spinmeister.

I literally laughed out loud when I read this. I had forgotten about those inane Congresspeople who want to get involved in Division I college football.

Orrin Hatch is all mad because he said some schools don't get a fair shake. He is specifically talking about BYU and other schools in Utah. Orrin doesn't like HCR either. Glad he has the BCS on his agenda too since it is right up there with other important issues.

I'm not even going to begin to get into the BCS system and its positives and negatives. Suffice it to say that I believe that is something best left up to ANYBODY but Congress. And they complain that they don't have time to read the HCR bill. Now wonder if they are running around worrying about things like this.

1. College Football...Yawn. BCS...Triple Yawn

Always the same schools in the bowl games with little chance of "outsiders" to get into a major game. Be it Texas or Florida or USC (I know they're having a bad season) or Oklahoma, it's of little interest to us Midwesterners or East Coasters. I far prefer NCAA basketball with playoffs where any school/team has a chance to reach for the top and provides far more competitive and entertaining games.
