Bishop Bans Rep. Kennedy From Receiving Communion For Being Pro-Choice
I was once told that if the Catholic Chirch paid tax on all the property it owns in NY, that isn’t used for church purposes we wouldn’t have to pay a sales tax. I’m fed up with these prelates sticking their noses where they don’t belong. If they can’t abide by separation of church and state, take their exemption away.

“PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin has banned Rep. Patrick Kennedy from receiving Communion, the central sacrament of the church, in Rhode Island because of the congressman's support for abortion rights, Kennedy said in a newspaper interview published Sunday.

The decision by the outspoken prelate, reported on The Providence Journal's Web site, significantly escalates a bitter dispute between Tobin, an ultra orthodox bishop, and Kennedy, a son of the nation's most famous Roman Catholic family.

"The bishop instructed me not to take Communion and said that he has instructed the diocesan priests not to give me Communion," Kennedy told the paper in an interview conducted Friday.

Kennedy said the bishop had explained the penalty by telling him "that I am not a good practicing Catholic because of the positions that I've taken as a public official," particularly on abortion” …cont…

1. At some point I believe the Catholic church will start losing
many prominent Americans. It should. The American catholics have often been at odds with Rome. But now Rome seems to want a public battle. I think taking it public will be a bad choice for Rome.

3. Unfortunately, we Irish have a lot of baggage
concerning Mother Rome. Most of that baggage is overdue to be discarded, and the hated Anglican church makes a lot more sense as its liberality fits in with the general Irish liberality.

The Catholic church is overdue for taxation, as is the Mormon church. Both try to insert their dogma into civil law too often and the tyranny of religion is just as bad as any tyranny of any majority.

Tax the bastards. Now.
