The truth about Blanche Lincoln's vote and the reality of current HCR
Edited on Sat Nov-21-09 03:00 PM by usregimechange
Blanche Lincoln did not say she would vote against a public option, she said she would vote against the public option in the current Senate bill. The truth is, and I dislike it as much as the rest of you, she wants bipartisan political cover. Translation: Olympia Snowe.

What does this mean? Likely HCR with an opt out and a trigger.
Translation: We get little of what we want, for now... and Obama and the Dems get a "victory."

That is the reality.

1. Yeah, letting the other side win is always a victory for us.

3. Would we be better off if Lincoln did not vote to move the bill to debate?
Let's see - 58 Dems plus Lieberman and Sanders will vote for debate. Are they the other side? I'm confused.

15. If we keep removing the good stuff from the bill, there's less and less to debate is what I am sayin
and therefore a victory for the anti-good health reform people (the other side.)

2. She pretty clearly opposed the P.O. and threw liberals under the bus.
I don't give her a pass.

4. Victory?
What kind of a "victory" is it when you make the problem worse? (corporate mandates, stupak stupidity, no REAL public option now, and likely not ever)

This is no victory for anybody except billionaire leeches like Stephen Hemsley.

8. So I guess we'll mark you down as being in the "let the bill die" camp...
Right there alongside the scumbaggy repukes who will pull out ever stop to obstruct reform. I'm sure they'll be happy to know you're on board.

9. No, I want THIS vote today to pass.
Edited on Sat Nov-21-09 03:09 PM by Sebastian Doyle
Then I want the real Democrats to tell the Repukes and the cowards to sit down and shut the fuck up, and not allow any discussion of any amendment unless it takes this lukewarm turd of a bill to the left.

Then pass a REAL reform bill with 51 votes, the last one being Joe Biden, if necessary.

13. Remember both chambers have to vote again after the bills are reconciled

19. And I've got the perfect way to do that
Get a true reform bill together out of reconciliation. Schedule the vote during the Christmas break, but don't tell any of the Repukes or DLC'ers about it. The bill passes easily.

Not that I would expect Harry Reid to do anything as logical as this, of course :evilfrown:

How about a trigger for co-ops?
I mean if we're going to fuck this thing through the eyesockets, let's fuck it through the eyesockets like we mean it.

5. We need 50 votes to pass the bill, 60 for cloture.
We've got the 60 for cloture. Now Lincoln can take a long walk off a short pier.

6. Face it. This 60 vote crap is only leading to a tyranny of the minority.
Lincoln, Lieberman and the rest who have walk a bi-partisan tightrope make getting anything meaningful legislation done impossible. Look at what has happened to California with the two-thirds majority rule. Nothing can get done because of the tyranny of the Republican minority and we have a Governor who can't control the members of his party to make them do things he needs done. I guess all those muscles aren't any good in politics.

7. Pretty Pathethic that Allowing a Vote is a Victory
Something is very wrong in our system when the minority rules. We should pass a public option bill with 51 votes. That would be a victory.

12. Still promoting the myth of a public option? Knock it off!

There is NO public option. A 'government' program that only allows 2% of the population to buy in, administered by the private insurance companies, and estimated to cost MORE then a private plan is NOT a public option.

So, stop repeating the propaganda and face reality.

The public option is DEAD.

17. But to many, verbiage is enough. Some say, "its a start" We will see
what survives confernce and passes. If it still has no antitrust protection and the anti choice measures survive, it could be worse than nothing. But many are just as happy with a voctory in perception. Even the much ballyhooed banishment of the denial of coverage for preexisting conditions seems to be backburnered, not taking effect till 2014. Knowing how to read makes me a "Debbie Downer" apparently. A "Gloom and Doomer". I should stop thinking, I suppose. That would make so many people happy! My local party os currently supporting a pro-life candidate for office and it is considered, inappropriate and rude of me to question it. And I am too "impassioned". I have to understand , it is a smart choice. She can get elected.I am gedtting really tired of all this.
