Senate Republican filibuster on Judge Hamilton fails! 29-70

Soon to be... US Circuit Judge David Hamilton

That is the good news...

...but the truth is GOP appointees still dominate this Circuit.

*Updated to add Judge Hamilton (a bit prematurely) and subtract one vacancy.

6. Confirmation vote scheduled for tomorrow
"The vote opens the way to Judge Hamilton’s expected easy confirmation via a simple majority vote set to take place on Wednesday."

12. What? They broke a filibuster?!
But, I thought filibuster had super-duper powers to stop everything congressional! Harry Reid and 59 others were totally impotent in the face of the overwhelming and unstoppable force of the filibuster! What in the world happened? How could a filibuster possibly be overcome by a mere 70 votes in the Senate? Is the flag falling? Is the Republic tottering on the precipice? Could the lock-step discipline of the GOP possibly be the taddest bit overblown?

This is VERY bad news for the Democrats; what if it turns out that filibusters aren't the colossus we've been told for the past five years? Will the Democrats actually have to fucking TRY to enact the legislative agenda we put them in power to achieve?
