The Mistake Of Congressional Democrats - Trying To Run To The Right of That Leftist Obama - GOP-Lite

Since the beginning of this year, the corporate media has been telling us that Republicans would come back and take over Congress in 2010, that voters would react to President Obama by becoming more conservative, and publishing generic gallup polls of Republicans leading over Democrats. Sadly, as was the case in 1994 and in the 2000 election, Democrats are buying into this rubbish. Like Al Gore picking Joe Lieberman in the 2000 election, who promptly decided to distance Gore/Lieberman from the success of the Clinton years (why?), Democrats are being told that they need to "moderate" to placate the reactions of a motivated conservative voter base.

Well, President Obama actually had it 100 percent correct in a pep talk to House Democrats prior to the vote on the health care bill. Trying to "run from President Obama" as a conservadem or GOP-lite is a recipe for disaster. Voting no on health care reform or financial reforms is not going to endear Democrats to tea baggers. They don't care. Worse, it just pisses off the liberal base.

Yet, we are going to here the media lecture Democrats that they need to be more conservative by pushing tax cuts and cuts in federal spending in the midst of a deep recession. Yes, start copying right wing talking points, and perhaps the tea baggers will be so confused that they vote Democratic. It sure helped Gore/Lieberman as they distanced themselves from Bill Clinton in 2000.
