New PCCC Ads Hit Blue Dog Betrayal

This week, "Blue Dogs" and other bad Democrats voted no against health care reform. So today, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee sent an email to our 250,000 members announcing that it's payback time.

We're running online ads in the districts of 10 bad Democrats, letting their constituents know that they betrayed us on health care reform. Democrats like:
http://www.actblue.com/page/hitthebluedogs?refcode=dkos1

Scott Murphy (D-NY). Murphy won a special election in April with ads featuring President Obama in a district Obama won. He told voters "the United States is facing a health care crisis." Yet Murphy voted against Obama's #1 domestic priority: health care.

Heath Shuler (D-NC). In 2006, Democrats spent millions helping Shuler win what is now a safe seat. As chief "whip" for the Blue Dogs, Shuler recruited other Democrats to vote against health care reform.

John Barrow (D-GA). Barrow won his 2008 Democratic primary solely because Obama endorsed him in a highly African-American district -- a district that Obama won by double digits.

Suzanne Kosmas (D-FL). Kosmas represents a district near Rep. Alan Grayson, but is the polor opposite of Grayson. Instead of being bold and having a people-powered campaign, she is corporate-funded and consistently votes against the people.

Mike Ross (D-AR). Ross is a top Blue Dog who Keith Olbermann featured for selling out to his insurance contributors. Our PCCC poll (http://boldprogressives.org/lincolnpoll) showed that Arkansas voters want a public option by 56% to 37%.

Poll after poll in "conservative" states shows that voters want health care reform -- and yes, they want the public option. Yet these bad Democrats put their corporate contributors ahead of their constituents.

If we don't hold bad Democrats accountable when they betray us on core Democratic issues, they will do it over and over again. You can see all the ads on our ActBlue page here.

Hi. I just let the Daily Kos community know about our new PCCC ad campaign hitting the Blue Dog Democrats.

Can you please "recommend" so more people see it?

1. It is heartbreaking to think about the healthcare bill we could have had
if the bluedogs had been muzzled. :grr:

They aren't supporting their constituents.

They aren't supporting our party.

They aren't supporting our party's priorities.

Why the hell are we wasting party resources getting them elected and giving them seats? What good have a majority if we can't even accomplish something as universally supported and agreeable as access to health care?

They manufactured a dissent that did not really exist, cooperating with republicans in doing so, solely to support corporate masters to undermine real progress. :grr:

What will our majority accomplish that will counterweight the damage of that? What will they do to make the blue dogs valuable to the party?

We would have been much better off fighting with a slightly smaller, bravery, more unified party.

2. Heath Shuler's too conservative for my tastes -- but he took down 16 year incumbent wingnut
Charles Taylor, who was a thorn in every progressive's side

Frankly, I really don't see the point of going after Shuler: if we want to strengthen NC's representation, we'd do better to knock out wackos like Senator Burr or Representative Foxx or Representative McHenry

3. Just because Blue Dogs voted against this bill doesn't mean the bill isn't a piece of shit.
