The Democratic Party: infiltrated by big business
They saw the brand of crazy that the Republican Party is descending into. The jumped sides, and bought in heavily to the Democratic Party, leaving the Republican Party to the teabaggers. Now what do we do?

1. First
we be glad that they are not still supporting a dominant Republican party. That would be a death knell.

Second, we take a few deep breaths and try to think really hard, and to relax so as not to panic.

10. True on both points.
I'm interested in long term strategies, though. I really believe that we'll see major political realignment in the next few decades.

2. No kidding!
It's know as the Democratic Leadership Council. Most of Obama's cabinet are charter members, almost. http://www.dlc.org/

Going through their website and dissecting the language is almost as much fun as the old "Project For a New American Century" website of the Bush administration neo-cons. I mean look at who they link to, websites like "Politico". They are Republicans who jumped ship.

How do we get them to move on?

17. Thomas Jefferson warned us about the "monied interests"....

Eisenhower warned us of the defense industry.

We all just yawned.

I do not know how... if they do not do what they say they will do when elected what can you do?

sigh.... I know what your saying. The question for me is... is it too late to save the Republic?

19. To answer your last question, I believe it is too late.
I cant think of a scenario that will restore our democracy. Some try to rationalize that all we have to do is vote em out. How. How do we get people to run that are not wealthy or that will be turned by the wealth offered by the corporations. How do we get Congress to reform itself. We have no leverage. Some people fantasize that we could always revolt. That's very romantic but not very practical. Through out history, most armed revolts only replace one bad government with another, some times worse government.

We need a strong middle class with strong unions. But corporations no longer need our workforce. They can get cheaper labor out of the country. This eliminates the labor's leverage. We do have a lot of money in the middle class, but thanks to the bush wars and bank bailout, most of that is owed to China.

9. Now you're veering into being sad
as opposed to the previous general boorishness you exhibited earlier. I understand why you'd be upset with that...maybe you should start a thread about it, and generate some discussion on it.

18. Infiltrated with misogynists who just happen to anti-abortionists.
It's totally obvious that they are not even dems!!!

The scary part is that they are also working hard to overtake DU and have thoroughly muddied the waters and confused people who weren't here before 07-08.

:argh:

... they still don't have anything close to a majority of opinion here.

14. Hey, I got here right after chimp tried to walk down Pennsylvania ave.
In the winter 2001.... In fact I learned of DU from the video coverage of some commie holding up a placard that read nothing more than>>> "Democratic Underground.COM" while chimp was to retreating to the limo for his own safety.
It's been a long crazy ride & obviously kids, things change....

15. What will we do? Enjoy the Democrats new found power?
My guess is that is what will happen pretty much from now on. The age of the corporate government is here to stay in America.

Otherwise, they'll take our jobs --jobs are the most important thing in the entire universe, you know.

24. yeah, we sure ain't nothing like the french
How does that saying go? "democracy is when the government fears the people." We can change the last part to "corporatocracy is when the people fear the government."

Of course, the repugs could split, the right moderates leave the party to the loons-they join with the righty dems, and a new party will emerge from the left. I remember the e-mails from, was it Ralph Reed? About the casino vote, basically calling their base loons. So, the way I see it, some of those on the extreme right only use their base and exploit their beliefs, thus driving any moderate republican to the dems. Of course, maybe it will be one big happy corporate party, for the party, by the party. We don't need no stick'in democracy, when we got corporations deciding what's best for the world.
