Good morning my friends, a simple request

I have noticed a lot of dis-harmony here at the the DU. This is upsetting to me, and to others I am sure. We've all been snarky at to one another from time to time. I know I am as guilty as anyone. Let's put all the infighting aside for one day and remember all those brave soldiers shot where they should have been safest. Whether you agree with the war, Obama, health care, gay rights, etc...... Let's forget that for one day and send positive thoughts and prayers to the soldiers and their families. Peace and love will win the day. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and keep all of our service men and women in yours hearts everyday.

We cannot forget these brave men and women who are willing to put their lives on the line to protect us; they should not be at risk on our own soil. How tragic this day is, compounded by the loss of two more soldiers in Afghanistan. This is very sad and I agree with Maxpower; let's put the snarkiness behind us for good when it comes to these soldiers. This situation is not their fault; we should, and we do, take our frustrations out on the people who caused this. Obama needs to end it.

I agree...seems a lot of judgements get passed on here and the flames quickly follow. It's on days like these that I go into "lurk" mode...or just shut off DU altogether. As one whose been on this site since nearly the beginning and over 15 years of playing on message boards, I've seen how quickly people will type and let passions and personalities get in the way of civility. It's easy to spout one's thoughts and when someone says the wrong thing, it's even more tempting to want to "set the record straight". Folks who would think twice if they were face-to-face tend to lose that concept when it's throwing electrons and 0s and 1s around.

As a rule here I never attack someone but will question a position...strictly for discussion purposes. The moment someone jumps to assumptions and ad hominem personal attacks, I'm done discussing and move on to other things. Life's too short.

Enjoy your weekend as well...and if things are too goofy here, talk a walk, read a book...a DU vacation is not a bad thing. Don't worry, this place will be here and the world will keep on spinning.

Also what about the Afghan/Iraqi families blown up by our missiles?
Don't see very many threads showing concern for those people murdered.

And welcome to DU. I think you will find that a lot of us are concerned about the innocent everywhere. This is one thread of thousands, look around. As you are new you might want to temper your self righteousness, we have been against these wars for years and yes we have raised the issue of the innocent casualties many many times.
