Al Gore is starting to look really old.
He's aging quite similarly to how Nixon did.

12. He's 61. He was born March 31, 1948.
He was very young when he became VP and looked it.

5. What does old look like?
I thought he looked fantastic on Colbert last night.

Go to a nursing home to see what aged and infirm looks like. Al Gore seems like a normal high activity adult to me.

16. 61 is old?
Maybe if you're 29, or 34 even, he looks old to you.
But if you're, say, 93, like my dad, Al Gore probably looks young to you.

I'm taking a little offense here. I'm 59 (two years younger than Al Gore), and I often joke about how "old" I am getting. But frankly, it's all relative, and I can still wear a pair of size 6 skinny jeans.

I guess in the end what I am saying is: you sound like you might be pretty young. It's too bad I won't be around when you are 61, to see you react to people calling you "old."

you are funny. hey.... i am working on 50. i am getting there.

i tell myself. 50. 50. 50 is old. if it was old a decade ago, it is old. not the end of the world. just old. i will HOPEFULLY continue to get older.

old is NOT a dirty word.

28. No, old is anyone who is 15 years or more older than you are
(corollary: young is anyone 15 years or more younger than you are.)

My mother told me this, and the rule has served her well for 84 years. It's a moving target.

When you are 8 years old, some one who is 23 is "old." When you're 23, someone who is 38 is old. When you're 38, someone who is 53 is old. When you're 53, someone who is 68 is old. (Hell, when you're 53, someone who is 75 is old, actually.)

It's only when you get to be my dad's age, and there's no one who is 15 years older than you are ... then you're old. But he still goes to the gym everyday and works out, and can still ride 25 miles on his bicycle!

11. He should. He's two years younger than Clinton, but more to the point,
he didn't have major surgery like Clinton did. Clinton's surgery aged him twenty years.

13. This is my first; and possibly only; time saying this, but...
this thread is useless without pictures.

Seriously. Please show the comparisons of which you speak.

I didn't watch whatever it was you watched. I'm not sure when in nixon's life your thinking.

I'm usually pretty good at picking up what someone means, but this time...nope, can't get there from here.

14. Quite likely true, but how naughty of you to point it out.
Then again it is just an observation, your opinion. You didn't say that he was a bad person, simply that you thought he is starting to look really old. You are getting scolded though for daring to mention that.

And neither does Gore. Maybe your eyes are failing you in your old age?

29. show a picture of yourself at 13 to a 13 year old and ask them if you look really old by comparison
you're not going to like the answer. See what nine years can do?

24. Unrecommended. I am so tired of...
Edited on Fri Nov-06-09 12:15 AM by demodonkey

...ageism and hatred of Boomers on DU. And BTW, Gore, Clinton, AND OBAMA are all Boomers.

On edit: If 61 is "old" what is 91, or 101? (and yes many people live to that age and even beyond)

30. Yes I am for real. I am tired of the preoccupation with...
Edited on Fri Nov-06-09 12:30 AM by demodonkey

...people's age and looks and relating those to a person's worth or ability.

It doesn't have to be outright disdain to be ageism. There are plenty of males who just looooooove women and are nonetheless quite guilty of sexism. (and women guilty of sexism too vice versa)

I'm tired of the boomer bashing on DU.

I'm tired of the notion everywhere that people over age ____ (you fill in the blank) are somehow no longer fit to make a living when they have possibly half or more of their life to live yet.

In my opinion this is a stupid thread, and I Unrecc'd it.

There is something about that man. I could listen to him talk about wonky policy all day and night.
