Two of the major players in the story are alive, after the General (spokesman) told reporters they were dead.

That's just... very odd.

Weirdest change in story line I've heard in awhile. He's dead, now he has been in custody since the shooting and is alive and stable. A total head scratcher.

Shooter's condition is not revealed

Soldiers do not carry weapons on base unless they're training

28. Several reasons I'd guess.

1. The soldiers on base don't carry weapons around with them so most of them were unarmed when Hasan started shooting. They were literally, sitting ducks without any ability to take him down.

2. The female police officer who shot him is an extremely good shot and knew how to shoot to maim and take down rather than shoot to kill.

3. She's a terrible shot and missed enough times she didn't kill him and only wounded him.

30. Well in this country we do not encourage people to attack a dangerous perpetrator

and empty their guns on him, or hack him to pieces with blades, or set him on fire, once he is subdued. Strange as it may seem. Being in the military does not automatically overwrite those cultural inhibitions.

34. FWIW, I read on another unrelated board (sports oriented) that the shooter was being operated

on at the hospital but until someone saw his picture on TV, hospital staff DID NOT KNOW he was the shooter. The hospital staff apparentnly alerted law enforcement that this guy was in the hospital, and then FBI, Sheriff's Dept. etc piled in. It sounds like no one knew where this guy was for awhile. Also was told the shooter was paralyzed. Again, not sure of the source, but he claimed to be the BIL of one of the hosptial docs, and I live in the area so it is possible.
