What is true is that all McDonalds outlets must purchase their ingredients from McDonalds certified producers, but the company is more concerned about the certified revenue stream than conformity.

For example: Everyone knows the recipe for a Big Mac: "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun." It's supposedly so standard there's a Big Mac cost of living index.

Now consider the Big Mac table for 30 different countries in Wikipedia. Before you cry wiki-foul, every entry is linked to the 'nutritional information' posted on each McDonalds' local web site. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Mac

Calories (kCal) 480 Australia to 600 Mexico. US 540.
Carbohydrate (g) 35g New Zealand to 57g Chile. US 45g.
Dietary Fiber (g) 2.5g Argentina to 5g Greece US 3g.
Fat (g) 24g UK to 33g Mexico. US 29g
Sodium (mg) 730 Malaysia to 2300 Sweden and Switzerland. US 1040.

I thought there were only minor variations as well. 20, 30, 40% even 100% differences are not minor. Who would have guessed the Swiss like so much salt? But clearly Mcdonalds does not require identical output from its certified producers as they collect their money. They tailor their burgers to local tastes. The guy in Iceland decided to get out of this scam. Whatever else, if you travel, McD food does NOT taste the same, local ingredients or otherwise.

5. My McDonalds experience is limited
But I can testify that the Japanese McDonalds fish sandwich tastes exactly the same as in the states. I know this thanks to my picky husband who spent his entire time in Japan desperately trying to find American food.

And try ordering a Big Mac in India if you're there. Instead of beef it's chicken.

12. Thanks for pointing out the major flaw in this premise.
food like substances produced at an intolerable and unsustainable cost for people and planet is total lunacy.

9. Well, everywhere I have traveled in the USA it is consistently the same old, boring
fare about as interesting in flavors as card board. I haven't really looked into the nutrition in those various places.

10. Actually, this is not unusual for food producers to do.
I recall that Pace developed a special picante sauce/salsa recipe specifically for the upper Midwest that contained no heat/spiciness AT ALL.
