Former SC legislator (R) caught with stripper and Viagra in cemetery
Source: Associated Press

A former South Carolina legislator has been fired from the state prosecutor's office after authorities say he was discovered in a Columbia cemetery with a stripper.

Police reports released Wednesday say 66-year-old Roland Corning was stopped Monday after his car was spotted in an area known for sex. An 18-year-old woman who works at a strip club was with Corning. Police also found Viagra and sex toys that Corning said were there "just in case."

5. More Family Values from South Carolina
Seriously these guys make the case for gay marriage better than anyone else. How can the gays destroy the sacredness of marriage when the politicians in South Carolina are doing it all on their own.

10. Pretending to be so perfect and straight-laced fucks people up.
Particularly when one is fully aware they are not as "good" as they pretend to be.

It's no coincidence that the most bizarre and twisted scandals come courtesy of Republicans.

Their holier-than-thou mindset just sets them up for dramatic self-destruction.

21. Ah, but the story is more tangled than it appears.
First, and most damaging, it was revealed that the Columbia police officer who apprehended Assistant Deputy Attorney General Roland S. Corning on suspicion of solicitation – and then let him go without being charged – is married to one of Corning’s co-workers in the Attorney General’s office.

Officer Mike Wines, who busted Corning with a prostitute in Columbia’s Elmwood Cemetery Monday afternoon, is married to Megan Wines – who works with Corning in McMaster’s office.

In fact, after apprehending Corning – a former State Representative and Workers’ Compensation Commissioner – sources tell FITS that Officer Wines called his wife, who consulted with her superiors at the Attorney General’s office and relayed word that their desire was for Corning to be released.

Obviously, that’s what happened, as neither Corning nor the prostitute were arrested despite the fact that after being caught they initially attempted to flee apprehension. In fact, charges still have yet to be filed in the case.

Also, Wines’ police report on the incident – which the City of Columbia told FITS late Tuesday afternoon did not exist – mysteriously came into existence after our story was published. That report was then provided to another media outlet for it’s Wednesday editions.

SC is a small state. Where else would the wife of the officer who pulled him over be someone he worked with??

You can't make this shit up.

22. The Dems need to work SC NOW...
Redirect some resources going to places like Alabama and Oklahoma into SC, as the iron is hot NOW. If Obama, bare minimum, does not crash and burn, the Democrats could make significant headway in 2010 and 2012.

It seems that any place isn't loaded to the brim with Mormons, gun nuts, or right-wing survivalist militias could be in play if things go well.

27. We are trying to work here.
The state Dem party is a joke. I send money and work for individual candidates. We have a good candidate for governor who has a chance, and he hired an Obama operative to head his campaign.

We don't get any help from the national Dem party. Obama had said he was going to open up offices around the state, but not a thing has happened. There has been a political calculation made I believe. Certain states are being written off because it is easier to pick up electoral votes and offices in other places.

Since the Rethugs are really being narrowed to this area with various branches in other places, I believe some effort should be made to help marginalize them here. They may never be out on the edge, but they sure can be pushed back. We don't get any help.
