Conservatives dare Obama to prosecute them under hate crime law
Edited on Wed Oct-28-09 10:07 AM by ck4829
Here is the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission vowing to defy the legislation:

"The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission will soon be announcing its plans, along with other leading pro-family groups, to defy, counter and challenge this unconstitutional attack on our religious liberty."

And here is Gordon Klingenschmitt daring Obama to prosecute him:

"I further invite President Barack Obama, as the chief law enforcement official of America, to discern the secret thoughts and intentions of my heart, and to prosecute me for conspiracy or inciting the violent crimes of others who might read my words and act upon them, if he dares to think he knows or can prove my motives were not pursuant to the free exercise of religion or speech."

Have these morons even read the bill?

Here it is, the big bad hate crimes bill that will supposedly prosecute people based on what they think and will create a status of unconstitutional thought crimes:

(4) FREE EXPRESSION- Nothing in this division shall be construed to allow prosecution based solely upon an individual's expression of racial, religious, political, or other beliefs or solely upon an individual's membership in a group advocating or espousing such beliefs.

(5) FIRST AMENDMENT- Nothing in this division, or an amendment made by this division, shall be construed to diminish any rights under the first amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

(6) CONSTITUTIONAL PROTECTIONS- Nothing in this division shall be construed to prohibit any constitutionally protected speech, expressive conduct or activities (regardless of whether compelled by, or central to, a system of religious belief), including the exercise of religion protected by the first amendment to the Constitution of the United States and peaceful picketing or demonstration. The Constitution of the United States does not protect speech, conduct or activities consisting of planning for, conspiring to commit, or committing an act of violence.

2. Have they read the bill? Probably not
But, unlike their estimation of President Obama's mind-reading abilities, they can discern perfectly the secret thoughts and intentions of every legislator who voted for the bill, as well as that of President Obama. And they know, deep in their hearts, they know for a fact, that the intent of the legislation, despite its wording directly to the contrary, is aimed directly at criminalizing their bigotry.

It is, therefore, a wasted effort to try to ask these folks to come and reason together.

3. First of all, they deny what they are saying is hate speech. Then
they leap directly to fear of prosecution for hate crimes. IOW, they KNOW that what they are doing is deliberate incitement to hate crimes.

They're assholes. What else is new?

4. These would be the same morons who claim we have hate-speech laws, and when you ask for evidence...
... they cite hate-speech laws in Europe.

Actually, they aren't morons. They are deliberate and dishonest. They tell lies and repeat them knowing that actual morons will believe it to be true.

Of course, it doesn't help when we have folks on our side who would actually like to see hate-speech laws. Morons are abundant that way.

5. It does violate their religion

The question is, as a nation, how far are you willing to take freedom of religion?

Leviticus 20:13
If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Here's one report:

7. Their religion commands that they should put all homosexuals to death
having a law that forbids that practice is a violation of their religious freedom. How far do you want to take this religious freedom thing? Do one man's rights end where another man's rights begin still?

9. Well, seems to me the churches haven't been obeying their lord for several centuries then. They
don't get any passes from the government to commit crimes because it's their belief. That was decided by the SCOTUS determining the Religious Freedom Restoration Act unconstitutional on 2/21/06.
