No president is perfect: If Obama is falling down on the job we need to let him know.
We elected him, donated to him, worked for his campaign. If he is lukewarm on the public option that most of America wants, if he approves of more troops for the hell hole that is Afghanistan, if his Dept of Education supports charter schools and union busting, WE MUST say something. To support the man and ignore the policies is to lose our voice as a people.

We used to criticize the freepers for being "sheeple" and for following George W. Bush, regardless of his cruel and anti-American policies, like leaving over 1000 Americans to die in the flood waters of New Orleans. If Obama allows millions of American children to be subject to poorly paid teachers in corporate curricula, is that any better? If Obama holds back and lets the public option weaken or die (after having taken single payer completely off the table) and people go BROKE having to buy health insurance with no cost controls BY MANDATE, is that any better? If 50K more soldiers are dumped in Afghanistan and thousands of them die, and thousands of others come home to horrific healthcare, is that any better?

I liked Obama, voted for him, but he is supposed to work for the people who elected him. Instead, he seems to be working off some other agenda.

Unrec all you want. This is a crucial issue.

1. Unfortunately, we don't know, but here assume the worst. Give me a different Congress, yet can still
get elected from that state. I am convinced he is working for us. 60 quasi public servants are still better to try to get the votes from than a GOPer. Olympia Snowe somehow has to be more brave than our own gutless wonders.

3. How would that explain the Dept. of Ed decisions? Or Afghanistan?
You can't just blame Congress. In the healthcare thing, if Obama came out strongly for a public option and made some phone calls to the conservadems, the public option would not be filibustered.

4. Then it is up to his administration to clarify it. When the politico article came out
Pelosi was on it very quickly denying the report

2. I have done it through conventional means, but the best way I know how to let them know is with the
pocketbook

If the Democratic party, DNC or like representatives send you a letter soliciting money, just return the request with a note, telling them that until there is healthcare reform with a public option, they will not be getting anymore donations

If they call, do the same thing

That should get the message across very quickly

20. Democracy for America. Originally, Dean for America, though HD is out of it now and his brother
Jim is running it.

I believe they have walked away from the current legislative mix.

6. The Dept of Ed union busting is not about appearances: it's about reality. Check out madfloridian's
thread. And I am in California and watching a lot of this crap in LA. 50K troops in Afghanistan is not about appearances. I have a sinking feeling that no matter what happens, the war in Afghanistan will enlarge, not wind down. Health care, well, that remains to be seen.

America is a big country and each states elect their own representatives who are the ones with legistlative power. Nebraska in general is a bit different than DU in terms of beliefs.

17. DU has its own sheepies.
On another thread poster told that Obama was president and you're not. You don't get to have a say. Like it or lump it. Perfect recipe for a one-term administration.

That attitude is actually a perfect recipe for totalitarianism.

26. As Bill Moyers has said
there are not two political parties, just one corporate party. It comes in two colors, red and blue, so that people will think they are having a choice. But like M&M's the two colors don't taste any different - it's all for show.
