7. I do and it really gets their goat...
Nobody recalls the abortion signing or the MLK holiday, which really mkes them MAD. I also call Reagan "The First Gay President" because he really had gay friends (like Bill Clinton had Black friends, so was called "The First Black President")...

BUT, best of all is Ron Reagan's refreshing Air American radio show!

IT ROKS!

35. I hope our good brother Mike is drunk or something.
Bill Clinton was called the "first black president" by Toni Morrison because he was treated as badly in the press as black people are usually treated.

34. Ronald Reagan was responsible for countless AIDS deaths.
Reagan's AIDS Legacy
Silence equals death

Allen White

Tuesday, June 8, 2004

As America remembers the life of Ronald Reagan, it must never forget his shameful abdication of leadership in the fight against AIDS. History may ultimately judge his presidency by the thousands who have and will die of AIDS.

Following discovery of the first cases in 1981, it soon became clear a national health crisis was developing. But President Reagan's response was "halting and ineffective," according to his biographer Lou Cannon. Those infected initially with this mysterious disease -- all gay men -- found themselves targeted with an unprecedented level of mean-spirited hostility.

A significant source of Reagan's support came from the newly identified religious right and the Moral Majority, a political-action group founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell. AIDS became the tool, and gay men the target, for the politics of fear, hate and discrimination. Falwell said "AIDS is the wrath of God upon homosexuals." Reagan's communications director Pat Buchanan argued that AIDS is "nature's revenge on gay men."

With each passing month, death and suffering increased at a frightening rate. Scientists, researchers and health care professionals at every level expressed the need for funding. The response of the Reagan administration was indifference.

That anyone could possibly call him the first gay president is obscene.

36. Reagan, White As Snow
Reagan, White As Snow

Ronald Reagan. The man was a saint, a positive saint. Such strength, such warmth, such conviction, such vision. Such claptrap.

Reagan was a mean, crazy old man with a withering contempt for most of the world’s people, beginning with African Americans and extending most strongly to black Africans.

Last week, as we’ve heard, the Republican presidential candidates praised the name and heritage of Ronald Reagan 40 times during the televised Show and Tell at the Reagan Presidential Library. That none of them mentioned Reagan’s legacy of white supremacy and support for apartheid is a little like invoking Jefferson Davis and not mentioning treason or slavery. Actually, a lot like it.

Ronald Reagan was a white supremacist to his very core, and left enough traces over his lengthy political career so that it’s evident for anyone who cares to look—which apparently few do.

His dirty tricks against Jimmy Carter was beneath horrible.

I like Ron.

He had a discussion about child discipline today - his story about his father very positive - no spanking, no yelling - just talking and reasoning.

I guess it is always important to try to separate the man (father) from the Party. As a Party man - he brought this country down - the legacy has gone on for decades. They called it trickle down, but it was setting the stage for wealth for a few and Fed Reserve ponzi schemes.

I can't stand the word trickle ever since the Reagan era. He was a liar and a conniver. The perfect actor-President. He sure was smarter and more educated (self or not) than George W. Bush.

21. Yeah, if Ron was the BEST thing...
The Bush family was the WORST thing you can trace to Reagan. And, he picked "poppa Bush" because he needed a "liberal" on the ticket. I don't believe the Reaagans ever liked Bush... they won't SAY SO, but I think they see the elevation of the Bush family as an error.

I could care less about the abortion thing, and had he not signed the MLK Holiday (regardless of whether he wanted to or not) the outcry would have been huge. (Remember all the bad press Arizona got for refusing to recognize it?) As I recall he didn't really push it through Congress.

Ron seems to be an intellegent and independent minded guy, but that in no way erases all the damage his father did to the country.

Edited on Thu Oct-22-09 10:55 PM by Hubert Flottz
Sick people died waiting to get their Social Security Disability...My Dad was one of them.

He made thousands of homeless people, by closing mental hospitals and turning out the people in those.

He even tried to cheat the school kids out of part of their lunch, knowing that one good meal a day at school, was probably all some of those kids had.

He made me tell my kids, "I'm sorry I can't buy you much for Christmas, because I don't have a job."

He lied Just Like George W Bush.

40. Out of those three
<He helped move the USA toward Roe v Wade by legalizing abortion in California!>

Something which he said he regretted doing later.

<He honored Martin Luther King Jr. by signing MLK Holiday!!>

Yes, after making statements sympathizing with Jesse Helms's views of Martin Luther King and after implementing programs and making appointments undermining civil rights

<AND...
He left us a great son, Ron Reagan!!!>
And a horrible excuse for a human being in Michael Reagan. Though I will concede Reagan's actual children turned out to be great people. Even his late daughter Maureen was a liberal republican who adopted a child from Africa, supported the Equal Rights Amendment and thought Oliver North should have been court-martialed
